Ash - "The Crier and the Watchman"
Grey covered the planet, the sun, that once friendly orb now remote. It was colder too, a kind of cold that ate right into the bones. Ozone filled the nostrils, and the other, a sickly sweeter smell of corpses rotting in their beds, their hideaways, their houses, their cars, their barracks, their bomb shelters, and finally where they lay where on the roads and fields, in varying degrees of decomposition.......

Morgan - "The Lone Soldier"
He walked through the mess hall. It was almost eerily empty, with it's one occupant slumped on the ground. The smell of rotting food, and of the corpse assaulted him almost immediately. That smell seemed to dominate everywhere his combat boots took him. He remembered once hearing about troops in one of the distant world wars, where man's only enemy was man, that survivors plugged their nostrils with cigarettes to escape the smell of rotting corpses.

Lilo - "The Princess in the Mausoleum"
Lilo had rules. You didn't call her Amelia, you didn't mess with her stuff, and you didn't tell her she was stupid. Under her bed and she found, without fumbling around, the lovely intimidating gun that she'd designed herself. She fit it over her shoulder, then unlocked a drawer and pulled out a nasty smaller gun that was half military, half underworld. A toy that no kid her age should have.......

Simon - "military man"
As soon as the door was shut, the smell of kerosene and oil overwhelmed him. Though it was dim, as his eyes adjusted, he could see that the place was once a workshop - a regulation jeep was still up on the blocks, and gruesomely, there were legs protruding from under it. A corpse, mimicking his mechanical work of his mortal life.
