| Subject: Language Arts Grades: 2nd grade or up Duration: One week and continuing throughout the school year. Objectives: Students will work cooperatively to gather and use information from the internet to report on a famous or unfamiliar author. Students will use gathered information to check out author's books from the school library. Students will record the information accumulated and give an oral/visual presentation on an author of choice. Students will demonstrate knowledge of technology based on the grade equivalant ISTE standards. Content: Content is based on the Grand Forks Public Schools district Language Arts standards 1-4 along with several ISTE technology standards. Rubrics are based on these standards. Process: Navigation through the website will be taught whole group. Students will work cooperatively with a partner to reseach an author. Awesome Author Fact Sheet will be printed so partners can record information as they navigate the site. On completion on navigation, students are expected to check out authors books from the school library. Partners will report about their author in an oral/visual presentation to the class. Author information will be added to the classroom's Authors' Wall of Fame. Standards addressed throughout the lesson: Content standards: (Grand Forks Public Schools) Standard 1: Students engage in the reading process Benchmark 4 1.4.1 Students read and understand a variety of text. Standard 2: Students internalize and respond to materials of literary merit Benchmark 4 2.4.1 Students respond to a variety of literature. Standard 3: Students engage in the writing process. Benchmark 4 3.4.2Students refine and control written communications. 3.4.3 Students communicate in written form. 3.4.4 Students write for different purposes. Standard 4: Students engage in the speaking and listening process. Benchmark 4 4.4.1 Students verbally express ideas clearly and fluently. 4.4.2 Students understand auditory information. Technology standards: ( ISTE Standards for grade 2) 1. Students will use input devices. 2. Students will use a variety of technology resources for directed and independent learning activities. 3. Students will communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology. 4. Students wll work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers, family members, and others when using technology the classroom. 5. Students will demonstrate positive social and ethical behaviors when using technology. 6. Students will use technology resources. Materials: Printed copy of Awesome Author Fact Sheet. Pencils Posterboard Markers/crayons/colored pencils/paint Author related books from the library (child chosen) |
