ncdot survey results after considering all of the reviewed alternatives, it is the recommendation of the ncdot that a combination of several of them be utilized. we recommend that the pedestrian crosswalk and brownlea drive be removed. the pedestrian crosswalk at fairview way would remain, but a pedestrian refuge island should be installed at the intersection of greenville boulevard and fairview way with enhanced pedestrian signing.to complement this, it would be desirable that a sidewalk be installed along the east side of fairview way extending northward away from greenville boulevard. as additional funding is available sidewalk could be added along both sides of greenville boulevard extending outward from fairview way. based on the results of a speed study of this section of greenville blvd., drivers are currently disregarding the school zone; therefore we also recommend that the current school speed zone be eliminated. additionally, the associated school zone signing and pavement markings on this section of greenville boulevard will be eliminated since there are no public driveways into the school property, and all automobile and pedestrian traffic must enter the property from either red banks road, azalea drive, or fairview way. eliminating the school zone will help place a greater emphasis on the pedestrian activity that is both school and non-school related. the preliminary cost estimate for the implementation of these recommended improvements would be the individual cost from the previously discussed options.
remove school zone and crosswalk, enhance pedestrian signing ~ $8,000 construct pedestrian refuge island at fairview way ~ $80,000 construct sidewalk along fairview ~ $10,000 total estimated cost: $98,000
