There are certain pieces that we read--books, plays, poems, songs, etc.--that change our lives in some way, affecting our beliefs and our identity.  During this project, you will be exploring a piece that has had a strong impact on your life and creating a website that reflects this impact.  Although you will need to meet certain requirements through this project, your website should be a creative expression of your personality, so have fun with it!
Project Guidelines[top]

Your website will need to include the following elements:

  • a summary of the piece (1-2 paragraphs)
  • a picture of the author and a brief summary of his/her life and works
  • 2-3 quotes (cited in MLA format) from the piece that contain ideas that are meaningful to you, including an explanation of how you interpret them and why you chose them (2 paragraphs for each quote)
  • active links to 3-5 websites that relate to the piece with appropriate titles to indicate what the viewer will find on each site (look for sites about the author and the piece itself)
  • graphics that relate to the content of your website
  • a collage (created on a Powerpoint slide) consisting of some combination of words and pictures that reflects the themes, issues, characters, etc. of the piece you have chosen (this will be linked to your site)
  • an explanation of how this piece has affected your life (consider any of the following topics: how it has changed your beliefs, made you think differently, altered one of your relationships, inspired you to do something, etc.) (minimum 3 paragraphs)
As with any assignment, all of the work needs to be your own.  Aside from including all of the required elements, how you design the website is your decision.  Be original, and your website will truly reflect part of who you are, which is one of the major goals of this project.
