| During my service with H.Q. Survey Production Centre R.E. in Singapore, I was promoted to Corporal and one of my duties was to supervise the map store. One order was that I should not issue silk maps to any Officer below the rank of Brigadier! The waterproofed maps were much covetted by the younger Officers who liked to wear them as sweat scarves! |

| In Singapore, I became interested in photography and joined the "Union Jack Photographic Club". I purchased a very old and battered "Original" Rolleiflex and proceeded to "shoot" Singapore! |
