Landmarks: Krnan dates back to the 12th century when the political situation around the resund was very tensed and Krnan was built as a defence tower. A century later a second tower was added by the young King Erik to serve as a residence for him and his queen Ingeborg.
The walls are 4 metres thick. For two centuries, Krnan was very important as a part of the strategic defence of Denmark. In addition, Helsingborg was one of the more important towns in the Danish kingdom. However, in the 16th century when the construction of the Kronborg Royal Palace began, Krnan lost some of its importance until a hundred years later when the wars between Sweden and Denmark broke out.
After many years of war Skne and thereby Helsingborg was handed over to the Swedish King through the peace-treaty signed in 1658 at Roskilde in Denmark.
In today's Krnan there is a restaurant in one of the towers and of course a magnificent view.
