Players from the U16's last year that are now bottom age U18's enjoyed a longer period of sleep playing Maffra at Maffra than they would have last year. Players had to meet at the rooms by 8 if they needed a ride up. the trip took approx an hour and a half.
Several players were carrying injurys into the game such as Scott Allen (shoulder), Evan bradshaw (shoulder?), and Daniel Powney (ribs). The team was short on numbers due to it being the Easter weekend. But the Scott Allens sore shoulders didn't stop his impressive 10 possesion first half.
There was a few changes in the side such as Brett Summers on the wing, Powney to Back Pocket, Geitz in the midfield. It the first quarter was close with Leongatha behind by 7 points. During the second quarter, Powney was shirt fronted to the head and was took off the field with the blood rule.  Leongatha outscored Maffra in the seconds quarter and narrowed the margin to 6 pts at half time. The team could notice the difference in the stability of the side without Scanlon giving that drive out of the backline. However players such as Brett Summers, Langstaff, and Wightman did well to keep the game competitive. The quarter only went for 15mins and Maffra had stretched their lead to 13 pts at 3 quarter time. Nick Eddy was being consistant as was Ben Maxwell throughout the day. Noodles was playing well and Chris Rump was taking the ruck duties due to Evans shoulder injury. The last quarter saw an impressive comback where Leongatha got within 5 pts. Some doggy umpring decisions caused chaos as Nick Eddy showed his appreciation towards the umpire then being sent off. Luckily the Maffra player wasn't skilled and missed a shot 15m from goal 60 degrees to the right. The siren sounded and leongatha had lost by a kick in what was a close and tight struggle all day for both teams.
Scores were Maffra 7 9 51 to Leongatha 7 3 45. Best Players for Leongatha were: Scotty Allen, Tim Wightman, Benny "Azza" Maxwell, 'Batman Dowd, TAB Summers, and Noodles Obleshchuk. Goals to Vaggy 2, Mick Malloy 1, Dowdy 1, Wightman 1, Eddy 1, and Getzy 1.
Possesion getters: Langstaff 19 (11 kicks and 8 handballs), Nick Eddy 17 (13 kicks and 4 handballs), Maxwell 17 (8 kicks and 9 handballs)

BLUES THIRDS IMPRESSIVE

The Wonthaggi thirds set themselves up for a good showing against last year's premiers, Leongatha, and had opened up a winning lead at halftime at Leongatha.
Wonthaggi had the first goal on the board after a scrappy start but followed up with another goal soon after.
Wonthaggi appeared the better team, but Leongatha were hitting back through brilliant play by Ben Geitz and then Vagg, but only resulting in points.
Great tackling and persistance by Powney resulted into a clever pass to De Bondt but yet another point.
Great play by Vagg to Eddy then to Allan resulted in the first goal to Leongatha but Wonthagi hit back with another goal.
A snap from the boundary from Maxwell found Allen. He went back and kicked his seconds to have the scores fairly even at quarter time. Leongatha 2 3 15 to Wonthagi 3 0 18.
Wonthaggi started better in term two and had the first goal again. Leongatha's defenders did their best to battle  up the play but Wonthaggi manages another goal. Great play from Langstaff to Vagg to "Noodles" and then to Eddy produced a kick at goal that was marked by Malloy, but only a point resulted.
Another goal to the Bluesstetched their lead after some good passages from the 'Gatha'. Half-time scores: Leongatha 2 4 16 to Wonthaggi 6 4 40.
The Parrots made the better start to the second half getting the first goal through Harris. But Wonthagi hit back with two quick goals. Three Quarter time scores: Leongatha 3 4 22 to Wonthaggi 8 7 55.
At the start of the last quarter, Leongatha were playing better with Eddy and Dowd continuing their good games but shots on goal were resulting in behinds,
Agaisnt the play, Wonthaggi snatched a goal.
Another behind came up for the Parrots, not helping matters while Wonthaggi manages another goal. Leongatha hit back with a good goal to Eddy but Wonthaggi kept on replying with another goal.
Final Score: Wonthaggi 11 8 74 defeated Leongatha 4 6 30. Goalkickers: S. Allen 2, N. Eddy 1, A. Harris 1.

ROUND 1
A great start to the Leongatha FC U18's who defeated Moe at Moe, in the end, comfortably by 12 points. The Parrots started slowly allowing Moe to be infront at quarter time. The seconds quarter Leongatha started to play the better football, outscoring Moe and leading by a point at half time. 3 3 21 to Moe 3 2 20. The backline kept Moe under pressure and they choked under pressure. Leongatha was gained their lead out to a goal by three quarter time. The last quarter was a struggle for both teams where as the scores were level halfway into the quarter. But Leongathas running and marking up forward proved to be the match winner and they kicked 2 late goals to start the season with a win. Leongatha 7 6 48 defeated Moe 5 6 36.
Evan Bradshaw was a highlight playing brilliantly in ruck all day getting first hands to the ball in each ruck contest. Nick Eddy played a good game with 21 possesions (18 kicks, 3 handballs) leading the ballgetters. Ben Gieitz was tight at fullback and kept his opponent out of the game. Stuart Bracecamp played consistant football and was given Leongathas best player by Ash Hickey (coach). Scott Allen, recruited from MDU, lead well and took a couple of good marks but missed a few he hould have capitalized with. Scott got 1 goal 2 behinds. Daniel 'The Hair' Powney took a while to get into the match but ended up playing well with the 2nd most possesions of 19 (16 kicks, 3 handballs). Ben Maxwell, another recruit from MDU, had 17 possesions and kicked a fthree goals. Joel Rendon, played for Simpson last year, did well at Centre Half Back and Tim Wightman was hard at it in the middle. Leongatha are looking to improve their side next week with players coming back such as Chris Rump from injury, possibly Daniel DeBont who was playing seniors, and Simon Shipley.
