| Leo Joseph Leonard Dushane was born August 4, 1939 in Marquette, Michigan, to Leo Joseph Dushane and Mary Margaret Dionne. Two days after giving birth to their only child, Margaret died due to complications from childbirth. He was named for his father and Margaret's brother, Leonard Dionne. Unable to care for his newborn son, Leo Dushane sought the help of Margaret's sister, Bernadette Dionne Markosky and her husband Charles, to help raise his son. Bernadette and Charles cared for "little Leo" until he was almost 3 years old. At that time, Leo remarried and began a new family. Leo lived with his family until he was 13 then returned to live with the Markosky's. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served three years. He married Marquita Claire French in June of 1960 and had four children. They divorced in 1979. In 1981 he married again to Michele Cheri Wendling and had three more children. |
