| Goldie Evelyn Platz was born to George Washington Platz and Myrtle McCarty on January 19, 1921 in South Haven, Michigan. At age 21 she responded to a newspaper ad placed by Leo Joseph Dushane, looking for a "mail order bride", to care for his three year old son and to bear other children for him. She moved to Marquette, Michigan and they were married on July 1, 1942. They had four children prior to ending their marriage in 1959. A year later Leo died. Goldie relocated to Cadillac, Michigan with her four children. She raised them into adulthood and remained in Cadillac until she died on February 1, 1991. She is buried in Cadillac. |
