There are plenty of Star Wars games out there (too many) all trying to be truly like Star Wars. Here's a change; a Star Wars game that isn't too realistic and instead has stormtroopers with pizzas. May the bricks be with you.
Story mode:
The main menu of Lego Star Wars is just new game, load game and options. Thats because the story mode is the only mode really. Luckily once you are in story mode there are other things to do than the Episode I, II & II missions. You start off as Qui-Won Ginn in a bar named dexters diner with Obi-wan following close behind. You and Obi are of course lego people. You are struck straight away by the colour and style of Lego Star wars. The 2nd player can take control of Obi-wan whenever they like by pressing start. Player 1 or 2 can go off at any time leaving the other to continue playing the game which is great. Back at the diner you can buy new characters and cheats with money you gain during missions. Players have different powers e.g. force, switch activation and weapons e.g. guns or lightsaber. A great incentive to play missions over and over again. You can go outside and duel with the characters you have unlocked in an open area with lightsabers or guns. You may do this while viewing ships you have earned during missions. Fighting is great fun in 2 player and carries no cost.

In Dexters Diner there is a door for each episode. There are 5 or 6 chapters in each of Episode I, II & III. These mostly involve going around levels shooting, using the force and your lightsaber to kill evil. But some see you flying a ship in an arcade style with quick mayhem. Each level follows an event that happens in the movie and adds humour and lego. You often use the force to put bricks together to activate something. On each level you need to collect machine parts to make a ship for that level. This can only be done by going back to the level after you've completed it in story mode. You must then do the level in free play mode. This is where you can change between different chracters during a mission. You need their different powers to get all the parts on levels. Also you need to get enough coins oin a level to get a ship part for the big ship. Being that Lego is often seen as a kids thing you don't get GAME OVER in the game but lose coins each time you die. This seems stupid at 1st but if you want to get enough coins on each level it makes much more sense. Of course there has to be a point to collecting a ship part for each level; que a secret door in Dexter's Diner leading to a secret unlocked by making all the lego ships.
Final Verdict:
+
~easy controls
~lots of characters
~not another average star wars game
-
~easy story mode
~too simple?
Score: 87/100
