Geshe Ngawang Dakpa was born in Nagchu, northeast of Lhasa. He became a monk in 1943 at the age of 10. He studied both the Dharma and worldly subjects extensively before entering Sera Je 11 years later. He left his country in 1959. After his arrival in India, Geshe-la not only continued his monastic studies but also spent 3 years at the Sanskrit University in Benares earning an MA with honors. Geshe_Dakpa.jpg (3526 bytes)
Invited by the Queen, he taught Tibetan at the University of Sikkim from 1970 for nearly 20 years before returning to Sera monastery in South India and gaining his Geshe degree. Since early 1995, Geshe-la has been resident teacher at the FPMT center in Taipei, and since 1999 has been the resident teacher of Tse Chen Ling, San Francisco, California, an FPMT center.
