| Choden Rinpoche was born in 1933 near Rabten Monastery at
Rongbo in eastern Tibet. At the age of three he was recognized as the reincarnation of the
previous Rinpoche. At the age of eight Choden Rinpoche entered the Rabten monastery, and
at the age of fifteen entered the Sera Je monastery, and studied the main five texts
there. Choden Rinpoche was also one of the selected ones from Sera Je to debate with the
HH Dalai Lama during HH Dalai Lama's geshe examination. During the Chinese takeover of Tibet Choden Rinpoche stayed in Tibet, and went into total retreat for 19 years in Lhasa, never leaving the room, from 1965 to 1985, and in 1985 Rinpoche was allowed to leave Tibet for India, and has taught for many years students at the Sera Je monastery in India. In 1998 Choden Rinpoche visited Italy and Germany, and in 2000 USA and Taiwan. |
