Title

Class Rules

Exhibit Explanation

The class rules revolve around respect. Students are to respect themselves, each other, the school property and me. Additional requirements included are punctuality, participation and use of the target language.

Rationale

Respect is a central element to all positive relationships. Students may not like someone or the actions that someone has taken, but through respect they can express their displeasure with the act not the person. Also, part of self-control is being on time and prepared. One is responsible for themselves and their actions.

Self-Evaluation and Reflection

The class rules are re-written on a yearly basis, but the concept of respect is always a central focus. It would be helpful to actually collect more data on student behaviors in order to better evaluate the various portions of the rules.

How Observed and/or Verified

Rules and grading scales are turned in to the office and handed out on the first day of class.

Validation of Student Learning

Discipline office referals (DORs) and not very numerous. There was one referal for behavior and two for tardies during the first semester of the 2002-2003 school year. The student participation grades are also evidence of student learning.
