This exhibit consists of a PowerPoint that is used to introduce
students to the city of Paris and the Chateau Versailles just outside of the
city. In particular, the exhibit focuses on selected monuments, museums and
other frequently visited tourist sites. The Versailles slide also links to
a virtual tour site.
Rationale
This project meets both Indiana Foreign Language Standards
and also addresses the goals of our school improvement plan. The students
write about the city after the presentation of the lesson. A PowerPoint is
a good tool for this lesson because it offers students a chance to see what
is being talked about. The beauty of the city is a natural tool. This lesson
is at times extended to include a follow-up research project that requires
students to investigate a Paris site and write a report or to create a travel
brochure for the city.
Self-Evaluation and Reflection
By reflection on this lesson and the methodology, it is important
to pace my speed and allow the students to contribute to the presentation.
The lesson includes thirty-seven slides and even though a lot of time is not
spent on each slide some students get bored.
How Observed and/or Verified
This project is verified through student writings and drawings.
Validation of Student Learning
Student learning was validated through pre and post-lesson
exercises. Students discussed the city at the beginning of the lesson and
then wrote about the city and drew pictures at the conclusion of the lesson.
