LTHL Stiga U.S. Open Announcement
The 2004 Lemont Table Hockey League Stiga U.S. Open will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Lithuanian World Center in Lemont, IL, about 30 minutes southwest of Chicago.
Details: The tournament will be played with International-style Stiga men taped down so they don't rise. Goal cups cut out and plenty of pucks per game. Games mostly will be mounted on individual tables at the now-standard 32.5" inches from center rod to floor. Trophies and medals for all divisions and $500 to the winner. Tournament will start at 10 a.m. sharp, with playoff rounds for the A, B, and C pools. Everyone is guaranteed at least one playoff series --- how many more you get after that is up to you.
Lunch: We plan to bring in a catered lunch of chicken, beef and possibly pasta for $7.50 a person. If it's like last year, there'll be enough food left for dinner too.
Registration: Registration opens May 1, and the earlier you register, the more money you'll save. To find out how to register, click here: Register here

How to get there: Map
Take a taxi from O'Hare airport: It'll cost you about $32 for the ride from O'Hare to the hotels or venue, but the plus is that fare is the same for as many passengers as you can fit in the cab. They recommend calling after you pick up your luggage. Universal Taxi can be reached at (630) 617-5400. American Taxi is at (877) 755-2227
Take in a game: If you want to make a weekend out of it, the Chicago White Sox will host the Boston Red Sox in a weekend series. The Friday night game starts at 7:05 p.m., while the Sunday game start time is listed as TBA. The Friday night game takes place on Elvis Night, with all sorts of Elvis Presley impersonators and an Elvis paratrooper, so if you're interested in going to that game, best get tickets early. There are also fireworks Friday night. You can find out more info here: White Sox game
Golf where Tiger plays: Get in 18 holes at Cog Hill, site of the Western Open, which Tiger Woods has won. It's in Lemont, just a stone's throw from the tournament venue. See the course: Cog Hill
Other amenities: If you're bringing the missus, shopping is just 15 minutes away at Oak Brook Mall (upscale) or Orland Square Mall.
Accommodations: Here are some options Garry Butler has worked on for your consideration:
Holiday Inn: Starting June 16 or so, this hotel will have a block of 10 rooms reserved at $89 a night under the name "U.S. Open Table Hockey." Call (630) 325-6400. The hotel, which is near a Red Roof Inn and I believe a Baymont Inn, is located at Route 83 and Interstate 55 (7800 Kingery Hwy. in Willowbrook, IL). The plusses: free shuttle to the hotel from Midway Airport and back. Note: You must call and give them your flight number and arrival time so they know when to pick you up. Also, a free shuttle from the hotel to the Lithuanian Center at a time TBA. They'll also pick you up from the Lithuanian Center and take you back to the hotel. Hotel is about 15 minutes from the venue. If you went this route, you wouldn't have to rent a car. There are places to eat around the hotel, where some of you stayed for last year's tournament. See the hotel here: Holiday Inn Willowbrook
D-Lux Budget Inn: A no-frills motel about five minutes' ride from the venue, but you might be able to catch a ride with some fellow players and save on a rental car. We've got 10 rooms reserved at $48.75 a night for double occupancy. Motel is at 12241 S. Archer Ave. in Lemont, IL. Owners Maria and Albert can be reached at (800) 528-9763. Some of the players from the BOS tournament last October stayed here.
