7/14/04 Aloha to all (from Michelle)! It has been a while since I have done an update for the website, so I figured I would give Keith a break. We have gotten awesome reviews on the pictures and I am so glad that you are enjoying them. It still blows my mind that we can share with everyone pictures that we took the same day! The past few days have been spent touring Washington DC and its been awesome. This is such a historic city with a lot of free things to do, if you have the time. We are very fond of bus/trolley tours, as you know, so we took another one. It took us all over the city to see the Washington Monument, US Captial building, and The Mall with all the museums. We got off the bus at the Lincoln Memorial to see Lincoln up close, visit the Vietnam and Korean Memorials, and the reflection pool. There is a lot of construction around the city so it has been difficult to see everything including the White House. While we still got some good shots, we were pretty far away. Our bus tour also included a tour of Arlington National Cemetary where we saw the Kennedys graves with the eternal flame, and the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We ate at Hard Rock Caf which happened to be right next door to Fords Theatre where Lincoln was killed. Got there just in time for an interprative speech about the night Lincoln died. Then we walked around Chinatown and we back to our room for an early night. Today we went to the Zoo which is huge and free. We spent the whole afternoon there, got caught in a rainstorm. It wasnt a big deal and it cleared a lot of the crowds out, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves! We saw elepahants, giraffs, tigers and of course the Pandas that Washington is famous for. It was a great day! I couldnt believe that the zoo was so big for the price! This is our last night here. We are off early tomorrow morning to visit some lighthouses in Southern Maryland then we are spending the night in Baltimore. Hope to hear what everyone else is doing to enjoy their summer! Mahalo! Michelle

7/21/04 It has been awhile since we have been able to do an update so I will try to keep this short and to the point! We have been having a great time on the road, sleeping somewhere different every night. We have also been making awesome progress southward bound! After I last wrote, we visited some lighthouses in south ern Maryland and then we spent the evening in Baltimore. Baltimore has an awesome Inner Harbor area where we visited a submarine, a lightship, a lighthouse and a coast guard cutter. We had dinner right on the waterfront, with the sun setting in the background. The next day we did a Chesepeake Bay lighthouse cruise and saw 10 lights in all. It was a smaller boat than we are use to and it was an all day trip but it was well worth the time and money! We were able to get very close to the lights, youll see by our pictures. There are two lighthouses that look crooked, yes they are really like that, it was pretty wild to see them so upclose and personal. We spent the next day driving to Virginia Beach where we got there late in the afternoon. In fact it was perfect timing because we had time to walk the beach, ride a ferris wheel, eat an ice cream and catch a fire works display. Good timing indeed. We spent Monday driving through the Outer Banks of North Carolina visiting lighthouses. Because of time we didnt get to visit all of them but we did climb Cape Hattaras which is the tallest lighthouse in the US. It was awesome, muggy and hot, but incredible. We had to take a few ferries to get back to the mainland and we drove a few hours after that to get farther south. We met an neat couple, Don and Jenny from Myrtle beach who loved hearing our story of our travels. On our way to the hotel, we ran into something very interesting. An area called Camp Lejeune where there were signs and words painted on the road warning of tank crossing! It was eerie because we didnt expect it, and it was night time. Then we turned a corner and there was a military guy with a huge gun walking on the side of the road that camoflage crap really works!! We spent Tuesday (Keiths birthday) on the road. We had lunch in Myrtle Beach and dinner in Savannah, GA. How many people can say that! Savannah in an incredible city. We had an awesome dinner down by the Riverfront which is the oldest part of the city and took a tour of the town at night that was about the haunted side of the Savannah. It is supposedly the most haunted city in America. It was a little cheesy but a lot of fun. Today we hit the road fairly early and climbed St. Simons lighthouse in Georgia. Spent the afternoon in St. Augustine FL doing a trolley tour of the historic area. Told you guys that we loved those tours!! We also saw a lighthouse in St. Augustine. What a neat town, it was the first settlement in the US when Ponce de Leon came over from Spain. He arrived even before the Pilgrims in Plymouth. Our last stop for tonight was Daytona Beach. We wanted to go there to drive the Jeep down the beach but we were too late, they were already getting cars off the beach for the night. So we continued on to our last lighthouse for the day which we climbed. Its the second tallest lighthouse in the US. All in all we have been having a blast and enjoying each and every day. It sounds like we are going none stop but we have had some down time in between- so dont worry, we are not burning out. We love life on the road. Keep in touch and stay tuned for our next adventures!! Mahalo Michelle
Man, if anyone can jam a weeks worth of travels into 1 paragraph, its Michelle!!! Like she said, we are having a blast, and I also love the southern progress we have been making. This morning we woke up in Savannah, GA, and ended up in Cocoa, FL. Tomorrow we are touring Cape Canaveral and ending up in Florida City for Friday in Key West! Hopefully the pictures will be up soon, probably tomorrow night. See ya! Keith
