The 2008 LeMasters Family Reunion is quickly approaching! From July 4 - 6, more than a hundred people will descend on The Farm for a weekend of fun, food and family traditions! Those of you that have seen the new shelter will get a treat when you see it at completion in a few weeks. For those of you that have only heard about it, boy are you in for a treat!
Here are some items to keep in mind when preparing for this year's reunion:
Safety Reminders:
- Absolutely no dogs again this year! Due to the number of kids running around and the potential danger to the pooches from the heat and cars, we are asking that people please be kind and find an alternative place for their pets to play this year.
- For safety reasons, bring helmets for dirt bike/4-wheel riding. Also, please keep in mind that the road to the back field often has blind turns. This is a pre-reminder to take care and ride slowly on that road.
Food:
- The last few years, the electric circuits have had a nice break from the overloading that has occurred in the past. Please continue to bring pre-cooked items that only need heated up on the fire grate. Put in an aluminum tray, if possible. This has been a huge help!
- The menu for Friday night will be cookout items. Anyone that can bring extra hot dogs, hamburgers, kielbasa, baked beans, etc. please do so. We will cook out on the fire and have a good old-fashioned family barbeque!
- Please bring a breakfast item, either a casserole or cereal or doughnutswhatever your family prefers.
Activities:
- Thank goodness, we will again have 2 porta-johns available this year! What a great idea that has been!
- There are several games being planned for adults and kids! Beyond the big slide and the swimming pool, there will also be a ball pit and a sand pile for the kids to play in...and possibly a rousing round of LIMBO!!!! Also, if anyone has additional games lying around please bring them. We won't have a volleyball net anymore due to the space issues with the shelter, so any additional games will be great. Also, instead of water balloons, the water balls are great toys that can be used over and over and reduce trash as well as the risk of a child swallowing a piece of balloon.
- I think we can all agree that the TALENT SHOW was a smashing success last year! We'll have it again this year after dinner on Saturday. If you have old play clothing (hats, suits, dresses, accessories) that the kids can use to let their imagination run wild, please bring them. The shelter will be transformed into a stage for the kids to entertain us!
- We're going to try something new this year, a LIVE AUCTION! Bring 1 or 2 gently used items (wall hangings, blankets, decor, etc) to be auctioned off for the farm fund. Don't PURCHASE anything, just bring something that you might put in a yard sale or that you're not using anymore. We'll see how it goes (I've heard Uncle Mark might be the auctioneer...keep your fingers crossed!)
Help:
- Last year, we held a 50/50 auction on Saturday. Well do that again this year, with tickets being $1 each, 7 for $5 or 15 for $10. No one is required to participate in this, of course, but the winner usually get a big bounty and the rest goes toward a good cause...porta-johns!!
- Selena will again take collections for Farm essentials. Please be sure to give her your donation at some point during the weekend. This really helps to ensure things like porta-johns, food and activitiesnot to mention the basic utility costs of hosting a hundred plus people for a weekend!
- A few friendly reminders - try to keep the yard clean during the weekend. I takes a lot of time to get everything cleaned up on Sunday, so a little extra effort Fri and Sat would be helpful. And if you could just be aware of your language around the kids, that would be nice.
It is expected that this year will be an even better turn out than last year! If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Selena at 304-723-4388.
Cant wait to see you!
