1 Chron 17:11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go [to be] with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
This verse has double application. It is about Solomon who was the literal son of David and was established as king when David died. He also built the temple that David was not allowed to build because of all the violence in his life. The second application of this prophecy is David's other son, Jesus Christ who also will become king and also will build the temple.
1 Chron 17:12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.
Here God told David about his latter day son, Jesus Christ who will like his direct son Solomon, build the Temple of God. Like Solomon, He will become king but unlike Solomon His Throne or Kingdom will be forever.
Zech 6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name [is] The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
Jesus Christ is the Branch out of the root of Jesse. He is the one God has chosen to build the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem, on top of Mt. Zion. Since Christ will supervise the construction of the Millennial Temple, it will not be built until He comes back to the earth contrary to popular opinion today.
Zech 6:13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
Here we are told that Jesus will build the temple and place His throne there. He will sit on David's throne and rule the earth from there and the counsel of peace shall be there.
Isa 60:10 And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.
Here we are told the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple there will be done by Gentile survivors of the nations. Thus the survivors of the nations will not only come to Jerusalem to worship, but they will also send workers to build the temple. The branch (Jesus Christ) will supervise their labor.
Ezek 48:21 And the residue [shall be] for the prince, ... and it shall be the holy oblation; and the sanctuary of the house [shall be] in the midst thereof.
The temple cannot be rebuilt until Christ comes back because it is to be in the center of the Holy District and the strict division of the land according to the twelve tribes of Israel will not occur until Christ returns, see Ezek 48.
Jer 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
Jesus Christ will be King of the whole earth and He will be sitting on the throne of David in Jerusalem, and He will be called the Lord our Righteousness
Jer 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this [is] his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
While Judah and Israel were two separate countries in the days of Jeremiah, here we are told of a day when they will be safe, indirectly this is saying that they will be reunited.
Haggai 2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.
Here we are told that the temple will be greater than the one built by Solomon. Ezek 40-48 describes that temple that will be built by the Branch, Jesus Christ is the Branch, and the services to be held there are also described.
Ezek 40:5 And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's hand a measuring reed of six cubits [long] by the cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.
A cubit and a hand breadth is about 21 inches long so 6 x 21 = 126 inches or about 10.5 feet is the length of the measuring rod.
Ezek 42:16 He measured the east side with the measuring reed, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed round about.
This means 10.5 feet x 500 = 5250 feet or about one mile on the east side.
Ezek 42:17 He measured the north side, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed round about.Ezek 42:18 He measured the south side, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed.
Ezek 42:19 He turned about to the west side, [and] measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed.
Since all sides are the same 500 rods long, this means that the outer wall of the temple is one mile square. this means that the Millennial Temple will be much larger than the temple of Solomon. It also means that it will not be possible to build it on Mt. Zion until the present Jerusalem is fully destroyed by the earthquake that will occur when the feet of Jesus touches the Mt. of Olives.
Zech 14:16 And it shall come to pass, [that] every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
Here we are told that the survivors of the nations of earth will come to Jerusalem to worship the king Jesus Christ the Lord of Hosts. Notice we are told that they will come to keep the feast of Tabernacles. We need to go to the book of Leviticus to see what the feast of Tabernacles involves.
Lev 23:34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month [shall be] the feast of tabernacles [for] seven days unto the LORD.
This is telling us that the Feast of Tabernacles will be on the 15th day of the seventh month. This may not be July as the original calendar used by the Jews had its first month around September.
Lev 23:35 On the first day [shall be] an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work [therein].
The Feast of Tabernacles involves more than just refraining from work, it also involves offering and sacrifice.
Lev 23:36 Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it [is] a solemn assembly; [and] ye shall do no servile work [therein].
Here we are told that the Feast of Tabernacles involved eight days of offerings made by fire to the Lord. this agrees with what we find in Ezek 40 to 48 in the description of the temple of the Lord to be built on the temple mount and the sacrifices that will be done there.
Lev 23:37 These [are] the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim [to be] holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:
Here we are told quite plainly that the Feast of Tabernacles includes burnt offering, or a sacrifice made by fire to the Lord. All mortals remaining alive on the earth when the Millennial Kingdom starts will be required to do this. Travel to Jerusalem from year to year to keep the Feast of Tabernacles involves sacrifice made by fire.
Ezek 46:13 Thou shalt daily prepare a burnt offering unto the LORD [of] a lamb of the first year without blemish: thou shalt prepare it every morning.
Here we are told that there will be a daily burnt offering or sacrifice made in the Temple that Christ will build in Jerusalem on Mt. Zion. Many Christians will deny this will happen and will point to the book of He brews saying that Christ has ended the need for sacrifice by His death on the cross. That is true for now but as the emblems of bread and wine are until Christ returns, He is fully able to change the rules when He comes back.
When Christ returns, He will rebuild the temple in Jerusalem and animal sacrifice will occur there then. There is no reference saying that it will occur elsewhere on the earth but that may also be specified at that time. Having daily sacrifice reestablished in the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem will mean it will be common practice at the end of the 1000 year Kingdom when the daily sacrifice is to be ended. This cannot apply to now, to the days we live in as there is no daily sacrifice occurring to be ended.
Ezek 43:18 And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; These [are] the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings thereon, and to sprinkle blood thereon.
Quite clearly, in the midst of the Ezek 40-48 description of the temple that Christ will build to be the center of worship on the earth, burnt offering and sacrifice will occur there. Israel will be filled with mortal Jews who will return there from all over the world. Unless the King and High Priest Jesus Christ specifically orders them otherwise, burnt offering and sacrifice will once again be part of their worship there. We must remember that it is written in scripture and that we have no right to pick and choose what we want to see happen.
Isa 27:13 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
Here we are told that during the Kingdom, a great Trumpet will be blown to notify everyone of the time to come to Jerusalem for worship. The latter day Assyrian in Bible Prophecy is Russia who is the Gog leading the great invasion in Ezek 38 and Zech 14 which we have already considered. Thus the survivors in Russia will come along with the other nations to worship in Jerusalem when called by the Trumpet blast.
Egypt is also named but since they are not listed in Ezek 38 as part of the invasion. They are likely to represent all the remaining surviving countries in the world who will also be called to worship in the Jerusalem Temple. It seems unlikely that the Millennial Temple, even with outer walls 1 mile long on all sides can adequately hold the world's population thus it is likely that only a portion from each country will come to Jerusalem for worship each year.
Isa 56:7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices [shall be] accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
Many people have looked for the time when the Lord's house would be called a House of Prayer for all nations. It has not yet happened, but we know that day is coming and here we are told that at that time "their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My alter."
Isa 66:23 And it shall come to pass, [that] from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
So it will be during the 1000 year Kingdom of Christ, there will be peace and the world will come to Mt Zion, Jerusalem to worship the King and learn of His ways. It will be a long period of complete peace. There will be no sickness or disease. There will be bountiful crops so famine will not exist. It will be like it must have been in the Garden of Eden. Then comes the end of the 1000 years and things change.
