| Lella Marie Schaaf was born September 27, 1975 in Charleston, Illinois, the daughter of Wayne and Dorothy (Simmons) Cox. She married David Wayne Schaaf (I-I District Circle K Governor 1996-97) on June 5, 1999. Lella was a past member of Eastern Illinois University Circle K Club, serving as club secretary and newsletter editor before going on to become a Distinguished District Secretary in 1995-96 and District Convention Chair in 1996-97. Lella believed strongly in the ideals of Circle K and exemplified the three tenets of service, leadership and fellowship. As a member and an officer, Lella carried out her duties with dedication, humility and excellence. After graduating from EIU, Lella worked as Director of Student Life at Lincoln Land Community College. She was a member of Church of the Little Flower and American Collegiate Personnel Association. She was also a past honored Queen of Job Daughters. Lella died Sunday, February 13, 2005, at age 29. A group of Lella's friends and Circle K alumni have established a memorial scholarship to help an Illinois-Eastern Iowa District Circle K member attend Circle K International Convention. A committee of alumni friends will choose one scholarship recipient annually based on application responses. Priority will be given to club secretaries who have never attended an international convention, but all I-I members in good standing are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted or postmarked no later than June 15, 2009. |
