The skill to write you poetry
If for one day my words would do
To capture the magic of your smile

That voice of gentle river-sighs
If I could write the rapture sweet
That you can kindle in my heart
My life's ambition would be complete
And I would have paid my debt to Art
If I could write you for one day
I shall not need, nor want, to write again.
More perfect than life ever could
More beautiful more dear to me
More full of tenderness and truth
The joys that might one day be mine
And this dark, uncertain world
I do not want nor try to find.
When you are in my mind unfurled
All that is real all that is now
When I see you smile they melt away
And by some power I know not how
