Now is the time to honor the American Legion Veterans for what they
have accomplished during the last century. Ordinary men and women of
Ashland County have helped to reshape the world by contributing
extraordinary service to their country in time of need. For
the love of country, these Ashland County veterans have given of
their time and energies, when they could have been the most
productive in starting their careers.
Did they want to be away from home, serving
in a foreign country, living and surviving in difficult conditions
which tested their initiatives daily? Of course not, but to them our
flag represented all of the things we believe that our country is
today. The United States is different and better today because of
the veteran's sacrifices through the century.
Today the American Legion, Post 88 in
Ashland, is building a memorial to honor their members, both
deceased and living as a tribute to the men and women who have
served their country in time of need. It will be a permanent
reminder to future generations in the 21st century of the loyalty
and dedication of the veterans of Ashland County.
