John Hartman

My name is John Hartman, I am a student at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and am currently working on a dual major of Political Science and History. I have a major interest in politics specifically government responsibility to civil rights when it comes to national politics and an eighteen drinking age, as well as other youth rights programs on the local level. I am currently a member of the National Youth Rights Association, Acacia Fraternity and am a founding member of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Lacrosse Club. Before college I have received many honors including Eagle Scout(BSA), Order of the Arrow(BSA), Senior Class President and Best Buy Store #825 Team MVP June 2005. Other than politics and the clubs mentioned before I enjoy video games (specifically Nintendo games), television, debate, camping and eating.

Over winter break I spent over thirty hours of my time writing a political brief on the Bush Administrations use of the National Security Agency to wiretap American Citizens. In this twenty page single spaced paper I cited forty sources and made very valid points about the balance necessary between national security and civil liberties. It looks into the views of the framers of our republics Constitution and how they would interrupt these actions by the President, the wording of the Constitution, the interpretation of said Constitution on issues of wiretapping and Presidential war time authority and the wording of the laws passed by the United States Congress. For a copy of the brief, which is still a work in progress from a conventions standpoint, please click on the political link below.
