There
are a few notable ommisions from the squad, eg Gareth Southgate,
Tony Adams (who has now retired), David Seaman, Martyn Keown,
Robbie Fowler and Darren Anderton to name a few. The reason for this is
because I don't think that they have been playing aswell as the players
who got in my squad, simple as that. Some people have called for the inclusion
of Ipswich duo Titus Bramble and Marcus Stewart. I decided against them
because I basicly don't think that Stewart is good enough for International
football and I think that although Bramble is an excellent player, he needs
more premier league games under his belt as he has played only about half
of Ipswich's games this season.
Nigel
Martyn is my first choice keeper because he is an outstanding goalkeeper
who should have been England number for at least the last 5 years and although
young Paul Robinson is currently keeping him out of the first team at Leeds,
I stil believe that he is the best keeper we have to offer. Richard Wright
and Tim Flowers have been chosen as reserve and third choice respectively.
Tim Flowers has been in tremendous form so far this season and helped Leicester
with their excellent start to the season. Forget Chris Kirkland, Nicky
Weaver or Stuart Taylor, Richard Wright is the best young keeper that we
have in this country and in my oppionio, one of the best keepers in the
world.
There
are probably a few surprises in my squad but I have chosen the players
who I think would perform best for England in the formation that I think
England would play best with. If you have any comment/questions, email
me.
