A fire fight ensued outside of the cell block as I was still trying to figure a way out. "Oh! The sweet sound of gunfire. You guy's go ahead and duke it out. We've got to split." I said to Lydecker as his men so helpfully gave us cover fire to escape. I, Zack and Bryn come out behind the fire fight. Zack laid down suppressing fire on both sides. We took one of the black armored Military Personnel carriers. Zack drove the carrier through the check point and gate as fire sprayed over the armor. "Hey girl!" I said to Bryn in the back seat as I laid her head on my lap. "I know you can still hear me. It's pretty impressive how you got away. I'm very proud of you." said Lydecker over the radio. "Gee...thank's dad." I said sarcastically to Lydecker. "Turn it off." asked Zack. "Please listen to me. Bryn doesn't have much time. Help me get her to Manticore before it's too late. I taught you always to have a plan. What's your's? To get her to a hospital? They won't understand what they're seeing. They won't be able to help her. I can have her to Manticore in four hour's. There's still time." pleaded Lydecker in a sincere tone. "Max! turn it off." ordered Zack. I shut off the radio so I could think but it wasn't working. The only thing on my mind was Bryn's welfare. What it that monster was right and he was the only one who could help. Logan could help us if he had time but Bryn didn't have any left. "She's getting weaker." I stated as Bryn moaned in pain. "We're together right now, that's all that matters." reminded Zack. "Can't just let her die!" I said to Zack. "Anything's better than going back there. You said so yourself." said Zack teary eyed. "I don't wanna die....please...don't..let..me die." pleaded Bryn weakly. "Lydecker! You still there.." I said as I turned back on the radio.
I made a deal with Lydecker that he could pick up Bryn at a place of my choosing. Zack got out a map, we picked a state park nearby and we drove until we were nearly there before informing Lydecker to send his assistance. Zack and I carried a fragile Bryn to a park bench so she could lay down and wait for "help". It felt like the longest walk of my life and I hoped never to have to do this again. "Bryn you're going to be alright and someday no matter what happens I'm gonna come for you. That's a promise." I said to Byrn and meant every word as I stroked her hair. "Max..." barely croaked out an ever weakening Bryn. I kissed her on the forehead and Zack kissed her on the cheek good bye. We headed back to the MPC and drove off. I began crying as I could still see Bryn's face inside the MPC. Zack tried to hide his tear as best as he could but he hurt as much as I did or maybe even more.
I was at Logan's apartment sulking. I felt alone again with Lydecker taking Bryn and Zack doing his magic disappearing act. Well...not totally. I still had Logan who was cooking for me again. "You're not going to make me eat dinner all by myself, are you?" asked Logan politely. I knew he was trying to get me out of my bad mood but I was so close to having Bryn. "Do you think we did the right thing, Logan...by letting him take her back there?" I asked him. "You took her out of a bad situation. You let her choose for herself." answered Logan. "Yeah, I guess." I said to him. "How did you leave it with Zack?" asked Logan. "He grunted something that sounded like good-bye and then disappeared into the night." I imitated Zack. "Well... you should cut him some slack. He probably had a rotten childhood." joked Logan. We all did I thought. "Worst part is he swung with Lydecker's ride. Tinted windows, class two armor. I could have fenced it for a fortune. He probably drove it off a bridge into the water somewhere so it couldn't be dusted for prints. He obsesses." I said to Logan smiling. "You need to be more careful yourself, you know? 'Cause now Lydecker knows what you look like." warned Logan spoiling my mood. Yes, Lydecker did know what I looked like now...I have to be more careful.
