J.C. Mackenzie was raised in Ottawa, Canada. He attended Concordia University in Montreal, where after two years, he was accepted by and attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in England. Upon his return to Canada, MacKenzie decided he would try his hand at acting.

After working steadily in Canadian theater, which included the Shaw Festival, MacKenzie was selected by Neil Simon to play the role of Carney in the American National tour of "Biloxi Blues." After the tour he moved to New York City, where he joined the Circle Rep Company. Shortly after, MacKenzie starred in the sitcom "Have Faith."

MacKenzie moved to Los Angeles in 1995 to star in "Murder One," where he played the role of Arnold Spivak for two seasons. Recently, he guest starred on "The Practice." His feature film credits include "Final," "Little Pieces" and "Dutch," as well as appearing in three Spike Lee films: "He Got Game," "Girl 6" and "Clockers."

In his leisure time, MacKenzie enjoys reading every newspaper he can get his hands on, as well as playing hockey, skiing and politics. He resides in New York City, where he is a tried and true New York Mets fan.
