***************************************** A LITTLE HISTORY **************************************
This section is devoted to the selling of my comic book and magazine collection.
Up until 1976, I used to collect comic books and magazines. From 1972 through
1976, I attended Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. At that time,
distribution of comic books to places outside of large metropolitan areas such
as Brooklyn, New York (where I grew up) was practically non-existent.
To compensate, I founded the Syracuse University Comic Arts Society (SUCAS) and
tried - operative word being "tried" - to improve distribution. Because our
efforts proved unsuccessful, I had to rely on my good friend, Paul Levitz
to help me out. (Yes, "the" Paul Levitz [Jerry, you name-dropper, you])
During the time Paul and I both attended Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan,
he had been publishing a fanzine called "Etc." and later took over the ownership
of "The Comic Reader". Part of the regular features of these 'zines was a
listing of all comics coming out that month and their due dates. I simply had to
give Paul my "buy" list, he would buy them for me, mail them to me, and I would
reimburse him for the cost of the books.... He didn't even charge me for
postage. (Whatta mensch!) in any event, Paul was not perfect, and neither was
I during the summer months when I remained home. As a result, my collection is
a bit spotty from 1972 to 1976... but nonetheless as complete as I could get it
at that time.
By the time I graduated from Syracuse, I had to set my sights on my post-
graduate education. I eventually ended up attending the Annenberg School of
Communications at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles,
California. In the meantime, my comic books and magazine collection remained in
Brooklyn with my parents (packaged up and stored in my closet where "no moisture
dare to tread"), where they remained for 20 years.
As things turned out... I eventually left USC, bummed around a bit, got married
(to Sue) and began our life together owning and operating The Legal Process,
a word processing and paralegal service in Century City, California.
Most recently (February, 1999), my parents moved to Reno, Nevada to be closer
to my sister's family (my parents' grandchildren/my nieces), who live in
So. Lake Tahoe, California.
Since the books were too voluminous to take with them (7000+), my Mom packed up
the books and shipped them out to me. Rather than spend money on storage fees...
and because I needed the money..., I had to accelerate my lifelong retirement
plans to have my own used comic book store (don't we all have that dream?) and,
therefore - HERE WE ARE!
In other words, the books have been in seclusion for 20 years and they are
in the same condition as they were when I put them away for safekeeping.
