Hayami Ayame/Ayanosuke - the main character. She is a ninja from the Kasumi Clan and carries the magical kodachi of that clan. She wears her hair in a long blue ponytail and has blue eyes. After her brother dies she replaces him and masculinizes her name to Ayanosuke. She thinks it is her destiny to get revenge for her village and to purge the evil which is now spreading through their world. She appears tough, but perhaps overwhelmed by her new role she has taken. |

Ayame has a kind and gentle heart. She gets along well with Ryoma, Kikyo, Kayo and many other people she meets. She believes strongly in the power of destiny, and is willing to die for it. She is also a spirited and feisty fighter. Her relationship with Kikyo is strange, perhaps some sort of love. Kikyo saves Ayame's life at the cost of her own and when Kikyo dies, Ayame tells her that she had 'so many things to tell her', and Ayame was the only one to cry at Kikyo's funeral. But Sakon appears to have fallen in love with her as well... |

Hayateno Sakon - the red haired (gorgeous) ninja from Hyoga. He is pessimistic and questions why he is fighting at all. He often separates from Ayame and Ryoma. He wields a magic katana, but unlike his two companions he cannot fully access the magical powers of the sword. He doesn't believe in destiny and refuses to die for it. Most likely he only did what he did for Ayame. He falls in love with her but won't admit it until too late. He is an excellent swordsman but only that, keeping his emotions well contained, being the reason |

why he cannot use the magic of his sword, and why he doesn't even realize until much later that he does love Ayame. Truly a tradgic ending. |
