Edward is an ex-British spy. He worked for the British government since he was in his twenties. He kidnapped, stole, and murdered for his country and in return he expected that his government would look after him. At the end of a mission that had taken him to the United States, he met Grace Langford, a painter who immediately rebuffed his advance. Never one to give up, Edward pursued her until she gave him. He realized soon enough that he was in love her. When he confessed, she reciprocated but would not agree to marry him until he had told her what it was that he did that kept him away for sometimes days at a time. Not wanting to lose her, he confessed and she accepted him. They married and were blissfully happy, soon welcoming daughter Autumn. He continued to work for the government, never imagining his work life and home life would meet. When his daughter was three, his wife was shot and killed in his home. Edward arrived in time to hold his dying wife and find his terrified daughter hiding in the closet. He was devastated and angry that his family had not been protected. He quit his post and began to search the world for his wife's killers. He drove his finances into the ground and rarely saw his daughter.
Finally near the end of his rope, Edward approached one of his contacts and friends, Milo Roberts, for a loan to start an organization. He intended to use it to continue his search for Grace's killers but Milo refused, stating that while although he would love to see one less drug dealer, or terrorist in the world, he was not going to fund a personal vengeance mission. Edward didn't take too kindly to the refusal and left. It was only the realization of how strained his relationship with his now six year old daughter had become that led Edward to come back to Milo with an agreement - he would use the money to start his own organization where he would recruit the best of the best to take out the world's worst. He did just that, laying aside his own need for revenge. Since then he had served as first an active field agent and then later director of the Grace Foundation.
He had seen many things in his life and recognizes that he will soon need to step down from taking such an active role in The Grace Foundation, and is deciding who will be the best to take on his position.
