Derroll Adams
News
about this site,
17 September 2006
Not much has moved on the
site since the restart of this website on geocities. Not that I was fallen
asleep nor that I joined the earthworms. During this last year a comity was
formed and attempts where done to start an official Derroll Adams site.
Propellered by the enthusiasm of Stan each of us went working out our idea’s.
The first concrete thing we realised was a petition to get the Derroll Adams
documentary of
Then some time later the
new Derroll Adams site itself got airborne. http://derrolladams.com/.
Without ever being officially launched the site was online for a few months. It
was promising. It contained lots of info about covers, lyrics etc. It had new
pictures and most of all the most complete discography that could get gathered.
We had all kind of weird idea's and some idea's had to be rejected since we were
a bit too enthusiastic in the beginning. One of the rejected ideas was to
organise a Derroll Adams Look alike contest!.
The site was very professionally build and had a nice layout with colours very
carefully chosen. Hey, we ‘old hippies’ got our demands too.
We hope to be able to launch the official site again in a near future.
Meanwhile Walter has
worked out some more Derroll Adams banjo techniques and tabs. (http://corporate.skynet.be/welec/).
When I first met Walter we agreed that on festivals we never heard a banjo
player play exactly like Derroll did. The main goal for Walter’s website was
to share his knowledge about the Derroll Adams banjo style. He said to me he
couldn’t read nor write music. However, I was more than happily surprised when
he started writing out tabs of Derroll Adams songs. Why not? We folkies prefer
to read tabs above notes anyhow. He does it with so much brio that I, and many
others with me, have approved that he hit the right Derroll Adams style. Go and
visit his site. There is no other banjo site worldwide that is so instructive!
Soon I’ll get a new
provider (Skynet) then I will post this Derroll Adams’ site there. The
Geocities site will remain as portal site for easy find back.

My website about
Derroll Adams has been down for a while due some problems with server
crashes by my provider. The previous url http://home2.scarlet.be/lefpeggy/DerrollAdams.htm
doesn't work anymore! There is always something that can go wrong but I
was not intent sit in a corner and weep. I go on with my site dedicated to
Derroll Adams.
The site is now being rebuild and parked on Geocities for the time being
at least for one year, maybe longer. I hope that all who put a link to
this site correct their link now to http://www.geocities.com/lefpeggy/.
Peggy is just the
name of my daughter and I am keeping this name ' lefpeggy' for the website
since this is the site where my site originally started long ago.
There where almost no viruses and I didn't know about any spam. The
internet was still innocent when I started. Info about Derroll was
very scarce in the previous century. I decided to start a web page
dedicated to Derroll. I had to learn the job and I couldn't hide my mother
tongue wasn't English. Many thanks to Pete and June who had the courage to
say this to me. Many thanks also to those who contributed in many ways to
better the site.
I know that a lot of
you have made sites dedicated to Derroll Adams. Therefore also a big thank
you to you all for keeping the legacy of Derroll Adams alive.
An official website is now in preparation with the domain name. www.derrolladams.com.
For those who are
looking for more info about Derroll Adams banjo technique there is good
news. So far my efforts were only modest. However Walter has shown more
motivation to work out something. decent. He already posted a new website
with lots of tabs and video fragments.
http://corporate.skynet.be/welec/index.html;
Also thanks to Walter for the little pricks he gave me to wake this site
up.
This year we are planning to finally cross our banjo’s and work out more
tabs of Derroll Adams music. We also hope to get some help of Youra. Danny
is delighted and is encouraging us. Thank you Danny. You're always
thankful.
