German Shepherds are among the most intelligent, courageous, and noble of breeds this is one reason it is so valued in work with humans. German Shepherds are a member of the "herding" group.  German Shepherds have  a strong work drive, thriving on challenge and pleasing their owners.  A German Shepherd properly raised and trained will be your companion, confident and protector for life.  German Shepherds are reserved with strangers a properly trained and socialized German Shepherd is a very devoted and gentle with its family, including small children.

A pedigree is a wise investment from the past to insure your dogs future.

What does your pedigree mean?

  1. Your dog is registered with the American Kennel Club and you have in your possession a three generation (minimal requirement) pedigree. You have personally seen at least the parents and preferably several generations of relatives of your dog and know that they are true representatives of the breed.
  2. The pedigree of your dog contains numerous champions in conformation, obedience and/or field work. This means at least 50- 75 percent of dogs named in the pedigree contain the German or American abbreviations Sch1 V VA or RN CD, in the dog's name. In addition, your dog has completed a championship in some recognized AKC or other recognized kennel club events. This proves your dog is a reasonable representative of the breed, and fits the conformational standard for your breed, making your dog an asset to the German Shepherd Dog
  3. German Shepherds that have earned a Schutzhund degree have demonstrated sufficient ability as a working dog to qualify for breed evaluation. The breed evaluation is a very detailed examination of the dog structure, temperament and pedigree. And requires both a certification of good hip joints and sufficient performance on an endurance test .  Schutzhund helps to maintain the quality of the breed at a very high level. Thus, there is a very high level of assurance that puppies born to Schutzhund dams and sired by Schutzhund dogs are more likely to be of reliable temperament, high intelligence, steady nerves, extreme endurance, great strength, and sound structures.
  4. Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. The OFA databases are core to the organization’s objective of establishing control programs to lower the incidence of inherited disease.  Responsible breeders have an inherent responsibility to breed healthy dogs.  The OFA databases serve all breeds of dogs and cats, and provide breeders a means to respond to the challenge of improving the genetic health of their breed through better breeding practices.  These results are recorded on your pedigree. There is no guarantee that your pup will not get a disease. A pedigree is a step in the prevention and good breeding practice that should thwart and prevent genetic diseases from spreading.
