Tigran MANSURIAN: b1939 Haven't heard much at all. The piano piece Nostalgia is beautiful, but I'm not sure if it is typical of his music because of the title. It was very Impressionistic. There don't seem to be any recordings of his enormous output for the cello either

Nicolai MIASKOVSKY: 1881-1950 Definately a Romantic. Writes beautiful music and is very underated. The Cello COncerto is one of my favorite pieces of music. DEFINATELY listen to it! The sonatas a very good too. He is at his best in slow movements if you like that sort of thing. All three pieces have been recorded several times.

Alexander MOSSOLOV: 1900-1973 Another of the composers who gave into pressure from the Soviet authorities. The Legende is a brilliant example of the avant-garde style he used in the 1920's. It is full of energy and constantly changes direction. (I also recommend the first Piano Concerto) Of the remaining pieces, the Concerto and Eligaic poem are recorded by Olympia and are in a conservative romantic idiom. Worth hearing though
