PRACTICING FOR THE INTERVIEW

Have you practiced?

Practicing for an interview is so important. Everyone is nervous during an interview, no matter if they show it or not. If there is anyone out there who is not nervous, I would love to meet them. They either have no feelings or are robots!

There are various methods to practice and get ready for interviews. Some of them are to:

  1. Observe other people's interviews

  2. When observing other people's interviews, whether it be over the Internet, by video or in person, watch the wording they use to answer the questions as well as their idiosyncrasies. See what they do good or not so well. From this information, examine methods of integrating the positive aspects and your improvements into your own methods to practice interviews. Observe the video clips from Vectorto see informational interviews and how these video clips are informative towards improving your own interview skills. What do they do right?

  3. Practice interviews with other people with your questions

  4. You have, from the Interview Questions section of this website, selected 20 - 25 questions that you have answered. HHave your interview practice partner ask you these questions and answer them as if you were in an interview. Then ask for constructive feedback from your partner in regards to habits, twitches, wording on questions, comfort level, etc. Then integrate your changes into your interview habits. Everytime you practice, you will get better!

  5. Videotape practice sessions with other people to notice idiosyncrasies in your own behaviour (i.e. fidgeting, nervous twitches, etc.)

  6. If you are sensitive to constructive feedback at the time of the interview practice, what you need to do is videotape it. Videotaping mock interviews is fairly common, as it allows a person to assess their performance themselves. Furthermore, if they feel comfortable, they can have a number of people observe the tape and to provide feedback. Once again, this will improve your interview skills!

  7. Do practice sessions by yourself in front of the mirror to observe those idiosyncrasies

  8. For whatever reason, some people are unable practice interviews with other people. For an easy method, use a full-length mirror and practice in front of it. Be the interviewer and the interviewee at the same time! It is a great technique to encourage yourself to feel comfortable when asking and answering interview questions.

  9. Do informational interviews

  10. Information interviews is a job search skill technique in which a person goes to interview employers on information about their jobs, such as labour market information, wages, duties, responsibilities, respectable schools, current and future job outlook and many other questions. This allows people to get more information on positions as well as practice their interview skills. You will start to feel comfortable with interviews, and informational interviews are not that different from job interviews.

  11. Do virtual interviews

  12. Virtual interviews are the new up and coming method of doing interviews on the internet. These are not commonly available at the present time, but there are a few places where you can access this new high-tech method. Try it at Monster.com! This website is fairly well-known and easily accessible. Have fun!
