Chemistry and Music!!! Entropy and Music Aleksandr Borodin: Russian composer and organic chemist Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934): English composer who found a way to make hydrogen sulfide John Alberry: chemist who wrote musicals, one of which is titled "On the Boil", obviously set in a chem laboratory Entropy and music: measure how diverse the notes are in a piece of music. Pieces written pandiatonically have low entropy since all notes generally lie within a given scale. Notes written outside of the scale tend to modulate the piece and therefore have higher entropy. It also tells if a piece is tonally "centered" or "disordered." John Newlands and the Law of Octaves History of the Periodic Table Here's a theory of how chemistry is related to music. Afterall, why is the periodic table arranged into 8 groups? Why do we talk about an atom having up to 8 valence electrons? Etc... Class Notes Acid and Base Equilibrium Organic Reactions Flashcards Chemistry Notes: Acids and Bases How to Succeed in (Organic) Chemistry Humor Periodic Table of Rejected Elements by Michael Gerber and Jonathan Schwarz Chemistry Carols very funny and very witty.
