I am a photographer and graphic designer. I am a member the Minnesota Army National Guard and currently serve as the Director of Marketing and Advertising. My main focus is on advertising and the creation of high-end design and ad copy. I arrange photoshoots around the state of Minnesota so we can portray our own local soldiers in our ads.
Photography has always been a passion of mine. It started out a novelty with the Rollie medium format cameras we used in high school for the newspaper and yearbook. Truth is, I was amazed at all the camera captured. It saw things I had missed, and I was in the reality of the moment - I lived it, yet I did not see.
When we leave a photograph "as is" then we show the viewer reality. In a way, we are restoring photography's credibility. We are stepping back into a time pre-pomo. A time when we did not lean so on the digital editing and photo manipulation crutch. Photgraphers had to know a great deal about composition.
While I do take many corporate portraits, I prefer candids. These spur of the moment shots can be quite impactful. They provide a glimpse into our everyday lives without benefit of staging. This, like optical tactility, can provide another level of realism.
I joined the military in the winter of 1984 as a 17 year old high school senior. I received an art scholarship but decided the military would take me further in life. I have been to 21 countries and every state except Maine. I have traveled the world and am greatful for the opportunity to serve. I shoot the Canon 5Ds and the Canon 7D markII. My favorite lens is Canon's EF 16-35mm 1:4L IS USM for its versatility in producing wildly different shots when paired with a full-frame sensor camera. I am also fond of the Canon EF 85mm 1:1.2L II USM lens for its ability to completely blow out backgrounds and produce stellar bokeh. This version of the 85mm is not a fast lens but it is an amazing lens that produces spectacular results.
