| As it turns out, I spent more time in Queensland than any other state in OZ. It's a big place, and there are some absolutely beautiful parts. It wasn't my plan to stay as long as I have, but then, my plans are always flexible. There's such a variety in this state, from Surfer's to Brisbane, Agnes Water and Airlie. And, finally, it was where I said good bye to the coast and headed West, into the Outback. | ||||||
| Brisbane I took some time off while in Brisbane, relaxed and recuperated a bit. That and became a houseboy extraordinaire. | ||||||
| Fraser Island Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, told me I had to go to Fraser, so I did. | ||||||
| Cool Bananas This is the BEST hostel that I've stayed at. I've now spent over three years backpacking so I'm not saying this lightly. Greg has built a marvelous hostel and I was happy to call it home for the holidays. | ||||||
| The Road to Airlie It took longer than I expected but I finally got back on the road and headed North from Agnes to Airlie. It was 3 for the road: myself, Eva and Al. It was the first night was a bit chaotic, I'd forgotten what traveling in Vacilando was like, but by the next evening, we'd found a great campsite, and some porn. | ||||||
| Airlie Beach added Feb. 18th. Well, it wasn't as bad as everyone made out at Cool Banana's. We found a nice, chill campsite in Airlie and it is a pretty place. Yes, it is a meat market, and if I was single in Airlie, I think I'd have run screaming. Or wound up in bed with someone, one or the other. | ||||||
| Whitsundays The best sail and Valentine's Day that I've had. | ||||||
| Eungella Nat. Park Before heading into the Outback, we decided to detour to see Eungella Nat. Park, a spot that had come highly recomended. Video: Crossing a river in Vacilando |

| Capricorn Highway And it's into the Outback we go! From Mackay, we headed West along the Capricorn Highway which runs along the Tropic of Cancer....I mean Capricorn. Ohhhhh, I just got that (kidding). | ||||||
| Matilda Highway We left the Capricorn Highway and got onto the Matilda Highway, and after passing Longreach, decided that we'd finally made it into the Outback. | ||||||
| Plenty Outback Highway The "Outback" in this highways name refers to the fact that it's an unsealed road, ie. dirt. Our average speed was 40kph (k not m). We took this road between Mt. Isa and Alice Springs, and saw maybe 12 people during our three day drive along it. It was some of the most remote land that we passed through, and it was wonderful. | ||||||
