Chapter 5

Laura sat in a waiting room at one of the hospitals in Chicago waiting for news on Luke. She knew they were in trouble but right now she didnt care. All she cared about was Luke and that he would live.

Roy walked into the room right then and sat down beside Laura. How you holding up? Roy asked her.

Ok. Any word? Laura asked looking at Roy with raw nerves.

Not about Luke at least not yet. I did talk to Ford about what happened out there. He is very understanding about it but he wants something, Roy said feeling very guilty about now. He knew Ford wanted. He wanted Luke in the same trap he was in and he had him. If Luke loved his son as much as Roy loved his then there was no way Luke would say no. No matter how much is pride would want him too.

About what? Laura asked seeing a look in Roys face that scared her. He wasnt happy and she knew it. She was just wondering what up set him so much.

They will drop all charges against you and Luke if you are willing to help bring down the rest of Franks organization. In the mean time, while they look for Lucky and get idea on where to go with the case, Luke will help me out on cases for the FBI, Roy said sadly.

Laura looked at Roy and said, We dont have a choice. Do we?

No, you dont. If you turn it down then you and Luke will charged with attempted murder of a federal agent, Roy said sadly.

And they forget about my son, Laura snapped her eyes burning with rage towards a group that should be helping people not taking advantage of them.

Afraid so, Roy said patting Laura on the arm. If it helps, Im the same boat. I get my son and time with me as long as I do what they say.

Laura got up and walked to the window. Tell them, Im not going to reply until I get a chance to talk to Luke, Laura said coldly.

No rush, Roy said and he got up.

Roy? Laura said stopping him from leaving the room.

Yeah? Roy asked turning around to face her.

Can you at least see if they can find my son? Lucky is only seven years old. He is just a little kid, Laura cried.

Ill do my best, Roy promised and then he was gone. Laura dropped down to her knees and cried for hours. She didnt know what else to do. Luke was hurt and maybe dying. Lucky was gone and she maybe never see him again. Lauras world crashed around her and she had no idea when it was going to be normal again.

**********************************

Virginia bought Lucky a game boy and some video games to keep him occupied. She didnt think it was wise to have him outside a lot. The neighbors might start asking to many questions. Lucky wanted to go out but every time he thought about it. He remembered Damions threat and decided it was best if he didnt. So, he spent his time reading, watching TV and playing his video games. It was ok but he couldnt wait for his parents to show up.

This afternoon, Virginia was in the kitchen, cooking like she normally did. Lucky realized she cooked when she was nervous and he figured having him around made her nervous. He wouldnt know why. She could only be charged with kidnapping. Lucky liked Virginia but that didnt mean he thought it was right for her to hold him like this.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door; Virginia walked out of the kitchen drying her hands on a towel. I hope it isnt a salesman, she said and she went to see who it was.

Lucky was hoping it was his father and mother. He kneeled on the couch looking hopefully towards the door. All hope vanished when he saw Damion standing there. You came to take him back to his parents? Virginia asked hopefully. She didnt like or trust Damion. She decided when he first dumped Lucky on her that she wasnt going to just turn the kid over to him. In fact, she was planning asking Damion to have the Spencers come after their son here. She knew it was a risk but it was bigger risk turning him over to Damion.

No, they messed up. Im here to take the kid off your hands, Damion said and he moved towards Lucky.

What do you mean they messed up? Lucky asked backing up a bit to stay out of arms length of Damion. He didnt like the guy and wasnt about to go with him willingly.

Your old man didnt have the guts to do what Frank asked and he ended up dead, Damion scuffed and grabbed for the kid but Lucky was quicker. He jumped back putting distant between him and Damion.

Youre a liar. My father isnt dead, Lucky yelled tears coming to his eyes.

Damion laughed and said, Kid your old man is dead and your mother is on her way to a federal pen for helping him try to kill a FBI agent, Damion said and he jumped for Lucky grabbing the kid by the arm.

Lucky fought but Damion was stronger then he was. He pulled the kid towards the door. Virginia couldnt stand by any longer. She grabbed Damions arm and demanded. Where are you taking him?

Isnt your concern. You did what you were told to do, Damion said trying to shove Virginia out of the way.

Virginia refused to move. She stood her ground and said, Damion, you walk out this door with this boy and Ill call the cops. Ill turn over that information I have on your father and the tape you gave me.

Damion looked at her and realized that she would do it. Threat like that can get you killed, Damion told Virginia.

Kill me and it goes to them anyway. Call your father and ask him. Why do you think he pays the way he does? We have agreement. He takes care of Caroline and me and I keep quiet. Well, you brought this boy here and you changed the agreement. Im not letting you walk out with him. He will stay here and Ill raise him, Virginia said holding on to Damions arm with a strong grip.

Damion could beat her but he knew his father would lever allow it. He looked at Lucky and said, You live up to your name but if you ever utter a word at what going on here. Ill come back and kill you. Understand!

Yes, Lucky said meekly.

Damion shoved Lucky backward towards Virginia. You want him. You can have him! Damion said coldly. Damion then walked out of the house leaving Lucky crying in Virginias arms.

Virginia walked Lucky to the couch and they sat down together. I dont know if Damion is lying or not. I can say this. Damion means what he says, so until your parents show up or until your older to take care of yourself. Your very welcome to stay here, she said rocking the boy slowly back and forth.

Dad isnt dead, Lucky cried. Virginia didnt know what to say. She just held Lucky in her arms letting cry it out. Later after he fell asleep, Virginia carried Lucky into the guest bedroom and placed him on the bed. She tucked the teddy bear that Caroline used to sleep with when she was younger in his arms then left him alone. Virginia didnt know how she was going to explain all of this

Lucky woke up a bit later. He sat up in bed and looked up at the ceiling. God, Lucky said meekly. I know Dad dont believe in you but moms says your real. If he is dead, can you let him in? He was a good father. He loved me and he didnt do what Frank wanted to do that has to say something about doesnt it? Please? And if can tell mom Im ok. Virginia is nice. She isnt like having her around but I know she will look after me. Lucky then laid back down and pulled teddy bear closer to him and fell asleep.
