| Chapter Six (Authors Note: Im not a lawyer and the court I seen is on TV.) Everyone in town was there for Stefan Cassadines trial. The press was out in force. The judge had ordered all the witnesses to be located up front. Mac had placed a guard around Lucky not allowing any one too close. The night before Mac made Luke a deal. He would allow him a few hours alone with Lucky. The only thing Mac wanted in return was for Luke to tell the truth on the stand. Luke found out Mac had discovered who loosened the railing that killed Katherine. He just wanted to say his good byes in private. Dara stood up to make her opening statement. Your Honor. This case has turned out from a very clear-cut view of murder to an old plot for revenge. Im going to take us threw years of lies, betrayals, and deceits. I asked the court to hold judgment until all the witnesses have spoken. When they have, Im sure this court will have no trouble finding Stefan Cassadine guilty as charged. Stefans lawyer statement was short and to point. Ladies and Gentlemen. My client has charged unjustly. All the evidence is so thin, I am sure you find him innocent of this heinous crime. Dara first witness sent murmurs threw the courtroom. I call Nikolas Cassadine to stand. Nikolas walked up to the witness stand. His uncles words running threw his mind. Tell the truth. It will only serve me in the end. After he was sworn in and given his name for the record. Dara started her questioning. Mr. Cassadine. Have you seen this dress before. Dara asked holding up Katherines dress from the ball. Yes. Katherine had it on the night she died. he replied. Who else worn this dress, besides the victim? asked Dara. It has been in the Cassadine Family for centuries. The last person to ware it besides Katherine was my mother. he answered. Your mother worn this dress. she asked. How about his ring. Did your mother ware it to? Dara asked holding up the ring. Yes. he replied. Mr. Cassadine in this painting of your mother. She is wearing a very unique dress. Is it a family air loom as well? she asked pointing to the painting of Laura. No. Nikolas answered. No. Then tell me where Miss Bell got this dress? Dara asked holding up the exact white dress. I dont know, but my uncle did not give it to her. he answered. Thank you. Mr. Cassadine no more questions. Dara said. Mr. Cassadine. Did you uncle love Miss Bell? Stefans lawyer asked. Yes and she loved him. Nikolas replied. Were they happy? the lawyer asked. As happy as any couple. Nick said. Thank you, Mr. Cassadine. No more questions. the lawyer said. As Nikolas took his seat, Dara called her next witness. I call Mrs. Helena Cassadine to the stand. Helena took the stand and swore to tell the truth. Mrs. Cassadine. Nikolas said that the dress and the ring Katherine Bell wore the night of her death were family air looms. Were they? asked Dara. No. They were designed specially for Laura when she married, my son, Stavros. They never part of the Cassadine family history. she answered. Thank you. I have no more questions. Dara said. Stefans lawyer had declined to cross-examine. So Dara moved on to her next witness. I call. Miss Alexis Davis to the stand. Alexis took the stand and she was shaking. Helena had warned her to speak the truth or Lucky would die. Miss Davis. Have you seen the objects in question before? asked Dara I have seen the white dress. I gave it Miss Bell. she answered. You gave it to her. Any thing else? asked Dara. Yes. A stone bench that sits on the island. It is the exact replica of the one in Greece. Alexis replied. Why did you give all this things to Miss Bell? asked Dara Helena ordered it. Alexis said coldly. Do you always do things, Helena orders? asked Dara Yes. Alexis said. Why is that? asked Dara. Because if not, I would have been killed. said Alexis How do you know it wasnt an ideal threat? asked Dara. She killed my mother and threaten to kill me. Alexis said. Why was your mother killed? asked Dara. My name is Natasha Cassadine. Im the illegitimate daughter of Mikkos Cassadine. Helena ordered my mothers death and would kill me without a second thought. Alexis said. Nikolas was stunned to hear Alexis statement. He looked at his grandmother with cold hated. Wishing for the day, she will get hers. Miss Davis. Were you ever in Texas? asked Dara. Yes. Alexis said a little shaken. Lucky had looked up at that question. He knew what was about be revealed. When you were in Texas. Did you have a baby? asked Dara. Yes. Alexis said. Where is that child now? And Miss Davis. I have statements from the doctors that remember you. Dara warned. He is living with father, she said. Whos the boys father? asked Dara. Alexis sat there for a long minute and the answered. Luke Spencer. Luke Spencer. That means Lucky is your son? Asked Dara. Yes. Lucky Spencer is my son. Alexis said. The courtroom erupted. Bobbie and Amy looked from Alexis to Luke and then to Lucky. Laura just sat there frozen and Luke tried to read her. He had a feeling everything he tried to protect was gone. Lucky just looked at Alexis with pity in his eyes. The judge finally got everything quieted down so Dara could go on. How did, Mr. Spencer end up with your son? asked Dara. He switched his dead son for mine son. His wife had just given birth. He knew as well as I did. The Cassadines would have killed Lucky on the spot just because of his father. said Alexis coldly. Thank you, Miss Davis. I have no more questions. Dara said. Stefans lawyer got up and asked her a few questions. Miss Davis. Did you try to make my client think that Miss Bell was Natasha. Yes. Alexis replied. Why? he asked. I thought she was gold digger and Stefans mind wasnt on family business. I thought he would be better of without her, said Alexis. Dara next witness was Luke. Mr. Spencer. Where were you the night of Katherines Bell death? asked Dara. Luke looked at Mac with complete hate. You better know what youre doing, he thought. I was on Cassadine Island. Luke replied. Doing what? asked Dara. Loosening the rail that Katherine fell threw. Luke said. Katherine wasnt the person you wanted. Who was? asked Dara. Helena Cassadine. Luke said looking over at Stefan, who had a smug smile on his face. Why were you trying to kill Mrs. Cassadine? asked Dara. She threaten my son, he said. Mr. Spencer. Your son worked for Mrs. Cassadine and has been living on the streets for some time now. Why is that? asked Dara. He was angry. He found out the truth between me and Laura. Luke said. What truth? asked Dara. That I raped her twenty years ago. Luke said getting even colder. The courtroom went dead quite. Lucky just looked up at his father in complete surprise. He was telling everything. The secrets were over! Who was your partner in your plot to kill Mrs. Cassadine? asked Dara. Miss Davis. Luke said. I have no more questions, said Dara. But I hold the right to call him again. Granted. the judge ordered. Stefans lawyer dismissed Luke and demanded that the case be dropped because of the testimony. Dara had stood up and said. Im not through. I have few more witness. There is more to be told. This better be good. I will hold judgment until then, the judge said. I call Laura Spencer to the stand as a hostile witness for the prosecution. she said. Mrs. Spencer. Have you seen these letters before? asked Dara. Yes. Laura said. Did you write them? Dara replied. And Mrs. Spencer. I have a handwriting expert ready to take the stand. Yes. Laura said. Your honor. I would like to read some partitions from these letters. Dara said and slow began reading. The letters said. Dear Stefan, Our plan worked. Stavros is dead and soon Luke will join him. As soon as you get rid of Helena, then we will be able to be together. Give Nikolas my love and keep our son safe. Lasha Dear Stefan, I messed up. Today, I discovered that I was pregnant. Luke cant wait. Im not going to bring a child of his into the world. I want you to kill Helena now. I cant spend too much time with this man. Lasha Dear Stefan, The pills worked the baby died, but Luke had another women pregnant. They switched the babies. He named his son, Lucky. Now we have two to get rid of. Lasha Dear Stefan, Please tell me this isnt right. Luke son cant take over heir of the Cassadine fortune. Our son must have it. You have to think of something. Ill be waiting for your answer. Lasha Mrs. Spencer. These letters are very direct. You wanted your son from Stefan to gain control of the family fortune. You set up Mr. Spencer to kill Stavros and were going to get him, but that didnt work out. Luke and Alexis had Lucky and he became the heir. Why didnt you go threw your plans to kill both father and son? asked Dara. Helena said. If anything happened to Lucky or his father. She would kill my son, Nikolas and Stefan. Laura said coldly. Dara had pulled out a recorder and said. Your honor. Im going to play some recording taken by Mrs. Helena Cassadine. They are conversations between Stefan and Laura. Dara said. The tapes had turned the court into a complete mad house. Everyone heard Stefan and Laura plan to use Lukes plan against him. They were going to get rid of Katherine Bell. Knowing full well, Luke would set up Stefan. They would turn the tables on the pair and get them sent away to prison. Living Laura and Stefan free to be with each other and control over Lucky. When a little time had passed and Helena had passed away. Lucky was going to have a fatal accident. Bobbie had jumped up and screamed. YOU BITCH! How could be so cold? Your worse that Helena ever could be. Amy just looked at her sister in shock. Hopping that all of this was a dream. Both Amy and Bobbie looked at Lucky. He was sitting there in shock. He wasnt even blinking his eyes. They moved him from the courtroom. Both hating Mac for putting him threw all this. Luke had turned numb. He could hardly believe what was said. His angel had planed to kill him and Lucky. She looks cold and unloving. Not same women he married. Then a thought struck him, Im never carrying a child of his. Laura had written. Lu wasnt his daughter. She was Stefans just like Nikky. Nikolas had gotten up and sat next to Alexis. He didnt want anything to do with his mother or father. The truth had hit him hard. He didnt know what to about it. After a good twenty minutes the judge had finally got everything calmed down enough. He had Lucky in his cambers with Dr. Monica Quartermaine. He was slow coming around. So he didnt hear or see what came next. Mrs. Spencer. What happened to change in the past couple weeks? asked Dara. Laura just sat there. She wasnt going to answer any more questions. So Dara dismissed her and Stefans lawyer declined to cross. Your honor, I have one more witness, but I would like to call Mr. Spencer for a few more questions. she said. I would have called Lucky, but because of everything. I think Luke might be better. Luke walked up to the stand. Mac had made sure that he wasnt going to pull anything. Taggert and Garcia were escorting him up. Mr. Spencer. Could you tell me what happen to your son a month ago? asked Dara. Lucky and Laura had fight. He was hurt when Laura pLuke stopped. Mrs. Spencer what? Please tell the court what you saw. asked Dara. She pushed him over railing. He hit a table that was below it. Cutting his face, cracking his ribs and braking his shoulder. Luke said numbly. You didnt believe that did you. You thought something else, what changed your mind? asked Dara. Todays testimony. Luke said looking at Laura feeling completely destroyed. Thank you. You may step down. Dara said. She had waited until he was sitting before calling her last witness. Mac had moved Taggert and Garcia right beside him. Luke didnt like the feeling he got. Thing couldnt get worse? Luke thought. I call Stavros Cassadine to the stand. Dara said. The door opened and Stavros walked in. Luke tried to get to him but Mac was ready for that reaction. He was held in place and shoved back in his seat. Stefan looked like he had just seen a ghost. For the third time the judge had to take time to quite everyone down. Dara walked up and asked. You called Mrs. Spencer and told her you were alive over a mouth ago. Yes. We are still married and I wanted to let her know that her plan failed and Im as alive as ever. I didnt expect her to try to kill Lucas. I would never have called. I would have made sure the boy was safe first. Stavros said. Luke was fuming. He yelled from his seat. You get near my son. I promise you Stavros. I will kill you. Luke. I understand you anger. Laura had used both of us. Im going to let that remark pass. I had a long time to get over my anger. You havent got that chance yet. Stavros said sweetly. Just then the lights went out and it took a few moments for the power to return. When it did. Laura and Stefan were gone. Chapter 7 Back to What's the truth |
