Chapter Forty Three

Luke, Laura, and Lizzie drove up the drive and the car was swarmed by reports
and cameras. "I think this has gone far enough. Alexis has to talk to these
people and get them off this story," Luke growled. Laura agreed and they drove
up the drive when the gate was open for them.

Lizzie realized why Lucky was so jumpy lately. Those people looked like they
wanted blood or something. She was only around the press in little doses but
this was during the full storm. She had a new pity as to what Lucky was going
through. She regretted ever complaining about the bodyguards and the people
shoving cameras in her face.

Lucky, Nik, and Lulu were sitting at the table playing old maid and Lulu was
winning. Lucky looked up as his parents walked into the room. "You made it
through that mob?" Lucky said and was smiling at Lizzie. She joined the boys and
the game.

"Where is Alexis?" Luke asked.

"She is in her office, working on some plan to stop the press," Lucky said, with
a cold tone of voice.

"She'd better find a way. This has gone too far," Luke said and headed to the
office to confront Alexis.

Ned, Stefan, and Alexis were in the office talking about what she planned when
Luke and Laura walked in. Luke ignored Stefan for the moment and stormed up the
Alexis desk. Laura just stood back and watched. She got a good look at Stefan
and wondered what Victor did to him. She felt the impulse to go and comfort him
but Luke wouldn't go for that at all. So, Laura just stood her ground and
watched from the sidelines.

"Alexis, have you found a way to stop this mess?" Luke asked.

"I want us to appear on the Cutting Edge," Alexis told them.

"You what?" Luke demanded.

"Luke listen to me. They aren't going away and Lucky has had it. He is about to
blow and that could just make matters worse. I know the producer of the show and
she has agreed to let me approve the questions. I'll give you the list and you
can get a look at them first hand," Alexis said.

"We don't have a choice, do we?" Luke asked.

"No. They aren't backing down and at least we can control what goes on this
way," Alexis told him.

"This had better work or you will have more to worry about then Lucky. I'll get
to the press first," Luke threatened. "Now, how about that paper?" Luke asked.

Alexis laid the paper on top of the desk and handed Luke a pen. Luke and Laura
signed the document and after that, Luke and Laura were legal guardians with
Alexis of Lucky.

"I have to get the house remodeled before he can stay with us. The work will
take to the end of the month. So, Lucky has to stay here until then," Luke told
her.

"You picked a good time to do it," Alexis said.

"I'm having a security system put in and new bullet proof windows. The house
wasn't that safe for him to live in as this place," Luke said.

"I'm sorry. I sound harsh but Luke your house looks like it hasn't been painted
in years," Alexis said.

"You're as bad as my wife. What's wrong with the house?" Luke asked. The entire
group laughed at that and Luke just stared at them with a cold look on his face.
They talk a little while longer and Luke volunteered to tell Lucky about the
plan. He was sure Lucky wasn't going to like it one bit.

Luke did pull Stefan out of the room and into the hallway. "Count. I know you
don't like me and I don't like you but for our family's sakes, how about keeping
the fighting between us. I know what Victor did to you from the WSB and it must
be hard finding out that Nik isn't your son. When he came to me and said he was
changing his name I was happy, but the only reason he did it was because of what
people think about the Cassadine family. He would not have done it if it wasn't
for that reason," Luke said.

"Spencer. I have thought about the war between our families and you are right.
We should not continue it any longer. I want to make you a deal. Nik and Lucky
are going to play a big part in our lives and we must find away to deal with all
of it. Like it or not, Lucky is the heir and you can not change that fact. I can
not change the fact that Nik is your son. We love them both and want what is
best for them. How about letting the boys decide what they want. We can make
suggestions but the finally decision is up to them," Stefan volunteered.

Luke looked at him and thought about what he said. "Count you have a deal, but
if Lucky doesn't want this Cassadine family title. You have to live with that
and let the kid follow his own life," Luke said glaring in Stefan's face. Stefan
nodded and they joined the others in Alexis' office.

He was right, Lucky hated the idea but he agreed to do it, but Lucky got to read
the list too. He didn't want any surprises when the time came to get in front of
the camera.

~~~~~~~~~~
They took an entire week to get ready for the Cutting Edge crew to arrive. Word
got out and the press was demanding at least a camera hook up for the interview.
Alexis agreed but only if they left them alone until the day arrived. The press
agreed and for awhile they had peace.
Lucky did try to go back to school but things weren't better there at all. The
kids didn't talk to him much and the ones who did only wanted information to
give to the press. Lucky had had it and agreed to Alexis' suggestion to have a
tutor at least until things calmed down. He knew it was for the best but he
hated to run from a fight.
Luke talked to Lucky and said it wasn't running. Beside Luke didn't really care
about the school thing anyway. The day the Cutting Edge crew arrived, everyone
was ready for this to be over with and hoped it would end that day fast.
Erica Kane found Lucky sitting on the back deck, watching the people run around
getting ready. "You scared?" she asked him.
"No, I just want this over with and have my life back," Lucky said flatly.
"I can't say blame you. I have a daughter and the press has taken its toll on
her. I asked for my fame but you and she didn't," Erica said.
"How does she deal with it?" Lucky asked.
"She didn't. My daughter is Bulimic but I think you'll make it through all this
stress, with a little help," Erica said.
"I hope so. I'm tired of this and my girlfriend doesn't want to deal with it,"
Lucky said.
"I don't know what to tell you but she would be a fool to let you go," Erica
said and kissed him on the cheek. Lucky was in shock. Erica Kane kissed him. He
was on cloud nine for the rest of the day and watched everything she did to get
ready for the shoot or almost everything. He didn't go into her dressing room.
Note: the interview will be in script form it will be easier to read.
Tad and Erica: Welcome to a special live addition to the Cutting Edge. I'm Erica
Kane and I'm Tad Martin and we are with the Spencer/Cassadine Family. You might
have heard about them lately in the papers and on TV but today you will hear
what they have to say.
These two families have been at it since the early eighties. The Cassadine's
tried to freeze the world. This isn't Science fiction, Ladies and Gentlemen, but
the truth. Mikkos Cassadine tried to freeze the world and Luke Spencer stopped
them. Almost a decade later, they are still fighting but now Luke Spencer is the
father of the Cassadine heir.
We are going to meet the families and learn what they think about all of this.
We will be back after a word from our sponsor. (Break and then the show.)
Tan and Erica: Welcome back to the Cutting Edge. We are speaking to the Spencers
and the Cassadines.
Tad: Mrs. Ashton. How do you feel about all of this publicity on your family?
Alexis: I think it has gone too far. We are just like any other family, with our
own problems. We should be able to solve them in peace.
Tad: Normal family? Isn't your son, Lucky, the heir to an empire that dates back
to the Czars of Russia and didn't your father try to rule the world?
Alexis: Yes, we come from a very old family and as for Mikkos, I can't say much
of what he had planned. He never told me anything.
Tad: Mr. Spencer, You met Mikkos Cassadine. What would he say about you being
the father of the heir to his fortune?
Luke: He would have blown a blood vessel. Mikkos Cassadine hated my guts and
most probably is turning over in his grave right now. This might be the best
revenge I could have ever gotten. The Cassadine line is now tainted with my
blood and it will never be the same again.
Tad: Mrs. Spencer. You have suffered a lot from the Cassadine family and you
find the son you raised is a Cassadine. How does that make you feel?
Laura: My feelings for Lucky haven't changed. I knew from the first time they
placed him in my arms who he was and I loved him anyway. My feelings for the
others have never applied to him.
Tad: You didn't try to push him down a flight of stairs?
Laura: No that was someone pretending to be me. I never laid a hand on Lucky and
I never will.
Erica: Nik, how do you feel about not being the heir and handing everything over
to your brother? I read that the two of you weren't the best of friends before
all of this happened. Has that changed?
Nik: I don't care much for the money or the power. I just expected it because it
was my lot in life. Lucky and I weren't friends before this but we are now. I
learned a lot from him and hopefully he has learned some things from me.
Erica: Lucky, we have been talking about the changes in your life. How do you
feel about all of this?
Lucky: I just wish people would leave me alone. I haven't changed but their
attitudes toward me have. I'm the same person, but people see me differently. I
want my old life back. I can't walk down a street now without someone pointing
and staring at me. I lived a life in the background and now I have been shoved
in the spotlight. I don't like it one bit.
Tad: Speaking of your childhood. You haven't had a normal one. You have lived in
most of the countries in the world and under many different names. You and your
family were on the run from the Cassadines and the mob for most of your life.
How do you feel about being one of them?
Lucky: I'm not a Cassadine. I'm still Lucky Spencer. Alexis is my birth mother
but that is it.
~~~~~~~~~

Across the ocean watching the show was Helena and Stavros. "How dare they make a
mockery of this family. Alexis is going to pay for this disgrace and she will
pay dearly," Helena threatened.

"Stavros, get us back to Port Charles. It is time for Lucky to learn how to be a
Cassadine." Stavros got up and went to order the yacht to go back to Port
Charles. He couldn't wait to teach Lucky the ways of being a Cassadine. No
matter what the kid said, he was a Cassadine and would be one for life.

~~~~~~~~~~
An hour later the interviews ended and everyone relaxed for the first time in
long time.
"Good show everyone. Alexis, I want to thank you for letting us come into your
home. I hope we weren't too much of a bother and I hope this worked getting the
press to back down," Erica said.
The crew of the Cutting Edge packed up and headed back to Pine Valley. Everyone
slept soundly that night and Lucky was surprised to find not one reporter
outside the front gate and from the looks of things Alexis' plan worked at least
for the time being.
