| Chapter Thirty Eight Luke was arguing with Bobbie when Lucky walked into the room before school that morning. "I'm going home and you can't stop me," Luke told his sister. "Luke, you are staying right here and that is final," Bobbie said shoving him back down on the bed. Lucky laughed as Bobbie left the room. She gave him a look that said 'do something with him'. "Have a bad night?" Lucky asked his father. "Yes and my sister just stole my clothes. I'm stuck here," Luke grumbled. Lucky held up a pair of pants and shirt for Luke to put on. "Does this help?" Lucky asked. "Kid, I owe you one," Luke said grabbing the cloths. "Just figure out who is behind all these threats. I'm tired of the bodyguards. They don't help my relationship with Lizzie, or should I say what could be a relationship. She is jumpy around men as it is and they don't help her at all," Lucky told his father. "You got it," Luke said getting dressed. Lucky opened the door and looked for anyone who would care about Luke leaving early and then motioned him the hall was clear. Luke, Lucky, and the bodyguards went down the back stairs. Luke dropped Lucky and one of the bodyguards off at school and said he would send Johnny back at three. "Make it four. I have rehearsal after school," Lucky told his father. "How did they talk you into that thing, anyway?" Luke asked him. "I don't know but I'll tell you when I figure it out," Lucky said to his father before heading up to school. Luke walked into the club and headed straight to his office. He dropped unceremoniously in the chair. Nik walked in and looked at Luke with a smile. "Lucky told me not to worry about coming to see you. He said he was breaking you out," Nik said with a laugh. "Nik, don't take this the wrong way but I have a splitting headache. So don't yell," Luke said trying not to sound rough. "Here," Nik said placing a couple of aspirin and a glass of water on the table. Luke looked at him smiled a crooked smile. He grabbed the aspirin and popped them in his mouth. Then he closed his eyes and relaxed for a little while. Nik went to check on supplies and to give him some rest. Sonny walked into the office and sat down in a chair. "You are the most indestructible person I ever met," Sonny said. Luke looked up and him with a glare. "You have word about the car?" Luke asked. "Yes and the cops are wanting to talk to you about the wreck. You cut out just in time. They arrived just moments after you left. Your family isn't too happy with you either," Sonny explained. "I don't care about any of them right now. I'll handle them in time. What about the car?" Luke demanded. "You were right. The brake line was cut and it most probably would have killed Lucky. The deliveryman was a fake and so was the call to Lucky. I'm having someone trace the call and it would help if you remember anything about the delivery man," Sonny said. "I don't remember much right now. My head is still spinning but once it stops, I'll give you the information. Sonny, what is going on here? Killing Lucky doesn't get anyone anything! So, why do it?" Luke wondered. "I think we have two main groups in play here. First, the person behind the kidnapping, because those fools who tried it aren't smart enough to pull it off alone and the second is this latest stunt," Sonny replied. "I think so too, but who?" Luke asked. "I'm working on that, just give me time. I placed another car on Lucky, as well. They are watching him from a distance and if you want one for the rest of your family, you got it," Sonny said and got up to pour him a cup of coffee. "I like the kid. He makes a better cup of coffee then you do and he handles the books a whole lot better." "I don't have much to do anymore. He even is starting to get used to picking out the acts. His taste in music has improved greatly of course, with Lucky's help," Luke said reaching out for the cup that Sonny was handing him. "I have a surprise for you," Sonny said opening up the morning paper. Luke read the headline and fumed, 'Cassadine Heir Saves Dead Beat Dad!!!!!!!!' "I hate the press and all of the bullshit they print. I dropped Lucky off at school and they were everywhere. They don't even give him room to breathe," Luke said. "Tell me about it. I was going to end Victor's life but with all of this publicity I can't do anything. It could bring down too much heat," Sonny said. "Hey, don't get in trouble because of me. If you have to back down just to keep out of jail tell me. I can figure something out," Luke said. "Don't worry about it and besides, Lucky is worth the trouble. I'll figure out a way to make Victor's death look like an accident, just give me time," Sonny said with a smile. "I might have some suggestions," Robert Scorpio said as he walked into the office. "Robert? Where have you been lately?" Luke asked offering his friend a chair and a cup of coffee. Robert got a cup and sat down beside Sonny. "I have been digging up some very interesting information. I know who is behind both your troubles," Robert said with an odd look on his face. "Tell me," Luke demanded. "Victor is behind the car. He has more power then any of us thought and the kidnapping is being called by Helena and Stavros," Robert said flatly. Luke looked at him as if he was nuts and Sonny tried to think of a reply that didn't show him too much. "I know about the hit on the so called Helena and Stavros but you messed up. Those people you and Jason shot were just some fools that worked for her." Sonny didn't say anything but Luke asked, "What are you getting at?" "Don't worry, Sonny. I'm not planning on putting you or Jason in jail. I'm after the Cassadines and so is the WSB. They placed tails on all of us and they even know where Stefan is." Robert said. "Stefan is dead," Luke said flatly. "No, he isn't. He is being held by his darling Uncle Victor. The WSB just freed him from his prison a few hours ago. He is alive and well but very confused. The report I got suggested that he has been held prisoner ever since he went to visit Laura in the Carolinas just weeks before his engagement party and from what I read this isn't wrong. So, I want the Cassadines. At least Victor, Helena, and Stavros and I'm willing to do just about anything to get them. I'm tired of this family destroying everything they touch. The WSB is willing to forget about what they saw. You just have to help us get rid of that family once and for all," Robert said coldly to both men. "Robert, are you sure about this?" Luke asked his old friend. "Dead sure, Mate. I just read a paper telling me in detail how Anna really died. Victor let her die and that is murder to me. I'm going to put him in ground with the rest of his family," Robert said. Luke, Sonny, and Robert made their deadly pact and agreed to meet later, to work on the details. Luke had to break the news to Nik about Stefan being alive. He was wondering how the kid was going to take it. Chapter 39 Back to What's the Truth? |
