| Chapter Thirty Nine Nik sat down in the chair and asked, "What's up?" "Nik, I promised you that I wouldn't lie about anything that pertains to your life. Well, I just found some things out. Stefan Cassadine is alive and from what I heard, he has been held prisoner by Victor Cassadine since before his engagement party. He is ok and the WSB are sending him home tomorrow," Luke said, looking Nik right in his eyes. Nik sat there looking at Luke, wishing it were a joke. He had buried his feelings about Stefan deep and now he had to dig everything up. "Is this a joke?" Nik asked. "No. I wish it was," Luke told him. "Great. More publicity and trouble. We just started repairing the damage from the last attack from that family," Nik said coldly. "Nik. I am the last person to ever say anything good about the Cassadine family but I think Stefan was used as much as we were. I'm going to make you a deal. I won't hurt the old bat but you have to at least talk to him," Luke said. "Why? He lied about everything. Stefan is just going to tell me more lies. He wouldn't know the truth if it bit him in the ass," Nik said and then stormed out of the room. Luke shook his head and thought to himself, "I must have hit my head harder then I thought. I just defended Stefan Cassadine to my son. But Nik is right, this couldn't happen at a worse time. Luke was looking over some paper work when Laura stormed into the room. "Luke Spencer. How dare you skip out of the hospital and not tell me," she yelled at him. "Laura do me favor and yell at me a little quieter. I have a killer headache and you might have one too when you hear what I just learned," Luke said pointing to the chair beside him. Laura sat down and looked at him for his answer. "Stefan is alive and is coming home. He was held prisoner by Victor before the engagement party, and Victor is behind some of the death threats. Helena and Stavros are behind the kidnapping threats. We just got in deeper." "Was your head hit too hard?" she asked him. "I wish. Robert and the WSB dug this up. We are in for more fun," Luke said. "I just came to tell you that Alexis and I have agreed to sit down tonight with Gail and talk about you and Lucky. I thought my news would blow you away. You didn't have to top me," she said. "I don't believe this. What brought it on?" Luke asked sitting up a little straighter. "Lucky and the way he acted when you were hurt. Alexis said he didn't talk to her once all night and this morning he acted like we didn't exist. Lucky is telling us which parents he wants. If we want our son, Alexis and I have deal with each other," Laura said. "I tried to warn you," Luke told her. "I know and I should have listened. You want to sit in?" she offered. "You promise not to strangle me?" Luke asked. "I promise, but I can't speak for Alexis." Laura said with a laugh. "Very funny. Very funny," Luke said pulling his wife in his arms. "I love you." "I know and you'd better," she said and then started kissing him. Nik waited outside the High School for Lucky to come out. Lucky took one look at his brother and realized that there was something wrong. "What's wrong?" he asked. "Stefan is back and they figured out who is behind most of your trouble. Helena, Stavros, and Victor," Nik said. "Great. My darling family is trying to kill me," Lucky said sarcastically. "Better you then me," Nik said with a laugh. Lucky glared at him and said, "You used to be one of them. Seriously, what are you going to do about Stefan?" "I don't know. Can we go somewhere and talk? Alexis, Luke and Laura are talking to Gail tonight. I want to go home but I don't want to be alone either," Nik said softly. "Sure, Ned is out of town. Let's go back to the house, we can talk there," Lucky said, walking to the car with his brother. The bodyguards followed and they spent the night in the opposite room from the boys. Nik and Lucky talked most of the night, waiting for Alexis to come back home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Who wants to go first?" Gail asked the women. Laura looked at Alexis and spoke up, "I want to know why you now want to be a part of his life, when you walked away without a second thought sixteen years ago?" "I didn't walk way because I wanted to. I left him with his father because Helena would have killed him out of spite. You know that better then anyone," Alexis said. "Laura, what is your main problem with Alexis?" Gail asked "and be honest." Laura sat and thought about it for a long time then she spoke up. "She slept with my husband and now she has my son," Laura said sadly. "Laura, are you afraid she is going to take me from you?" Luke asked. "No but�" Laura stopped. "Angel, I love you with all my heart. I can't say I want to take back that night, because saying that would be like wishing Lucky were never born. I thank God everyday that he is our son. We have been through a lot, the two of us and you know I have only a few regrets in my life. Lucky isn't one of them. We lost our son all those years ago and Alexis gave us Lucky. He just wanted to know her but you pushed Alexis to fight. I tried to tell you that we would lose. I don't have the greatest background and due to what the fake Laura said on the stand at that trail, I don't blame the judge for that decision. We have to figure out a way to live with this or Lucky will end up hating us," Luke pleaded. Alexis listen to them and made a sudden decision. "Laura, I'm going to make you a deal. How about Luke and I both share custody of Lucky? He can spend two weeks with you & Luke and two weeks with me. He gets what he wants and we get what we want," Alexis said. "You'll do that?" Laura asked her. "Yes, because all I ever wanted was to know him," Alexis told her. "You have a deal," she said. "Laura, about Luke. I didn't love him then, and I don't now. We got drunk and slept together. Like he said, how do you regret a night and not regret what you got from it. Lucky is too important to all of us to dig up the past. How about being friends?" Alexis asked her. "I'll try but this is hard. I know you're right but I'm going to have trouble with it," Laura said. "I know and I would too, if Ned slept with another women but that is in the past and we have to deal with the future," Alexis said. ~~~~~~~~ Lucky put the dinner on the table and looked at his brother. "What are you going to say to him?" Lucky asked. "I don't know, but I guess dad is right about talking to him," Nik said. "Dad? Big brother, are you feeling all right?" Lucky asked. "I'm fine. I just started to accept the truth and now this," Nik said. They sat and ate dinner, while they talked some more. "You know I really don't know what to call them any more?" Lucky asked. "I like old bats," Nik said with a laugh. "Yeah, that sounds about right. I might be Alexis' son and she is running the Cassadine family but Helena isn't my grandmother and Stavros isn't my Uncle," Lucky said through his teeth. "How about Victor?" Nik asked. "I hope Victor rots in Hell. He tried to kill me and didn't think twice about it," Lucky said. "I don't blame you. I just hope Stefan is ready for this new family because I'm not going back to the way it was," Nik told him.
