| Chapter Thirty Five The week passed fast Alexis was running around trying to get ready for her wedding. She was having trouble dealing with the Quartermaines, Laura, and the Cassadine family all at once. She was glad the day the wedding did arrive and she finally got a chance to enjoy it. Alexis had talked Lucky into giving her away. The wedding turned into a very large affair. Lucky was introduced to family and friends of the Cassadine family. He was in shock at all the rich and royal people they knew. Nikolas did come to the wedding. He thought Lucky could use his help and Alexis wanted him to be there. Lucky was grateful for Nikolas being there. He had someone around to help him not make a fool of himself. The press were out in force and Lucky ducked the camera's every chance he got. Nikolas, Lucky, Lizzie, and Emily were at the reception talking quietly to each other. Lizzie and Emily were looking around at all the people at the party. "Nikolas, you mean this is nothing compared to some of the parties you used to attend?" Lizzie said not hiding the excitement in her voice. "No. You would be surprise. Helena loved to show off and have guests over," Nikolas said. "I just can't wait to get out of here," Lucky said. "I don't blame you. I'm still waiting for grandfather to show up and cause a scene," Emily said. "You don't have to worry about that," Jason said walking up and joining the group of teens. "My men are ordered to keep him as far way from here as possible." "I'm glad. He caused Alexis nothing but grief all week and I don't think she can handle him much more," Lucky told him. "I know she can't and I fixed the old man. Grandmother had ordered Reggie to hide all the keys from the family and even had me place guards around the house. They aren't getting out today," Jason said with a laugh. "She didn't?" Nikolas asked in shock. "She did," Jason said. The group laughed at the thought of the Q's locked up in their own house. They could almost hear the arguments now on the subject. The wedding reception finally ended about twelve that night. Lucky drove Lizzie home and headed to his old house. Alexis did agree to let him stay with his parents while she and Ned were on their honeymoon. Lucky was tired and didn't see the car behind him move too close until it started to ram him. Lucky grabbed the wheel and tried to keep the car on the road. The car rammed him again and Lucky almost lost control. He put his foot on the gas and his mind was racing for a way to lose this car. Lucky was thinking of every trick Luke told him or taught him about getting rid of a tail. Lucky looked up a head and saw a truck pull out from an alley. He floored the accelerator and got around the truck but the car behind him wasn't so lucky. Lucky looked behind him and took a deep breath, on seeing the empty road. Lucky grabbed his cell phone and called his father. Luke didn't like the sound of the trouble and ordered Lucky to head directly to the house. When he pulled up in the driveway, Laura ran out of the door and grabbed him before he was barely was out of the car. "Mom, I'm ok," Lucky told her patting her on the back and then closed the car door. He guided her back in the house. It was too dark to assess the damage to the car and he still didn't know what was going on. Luke looked at him checking to make sure he was all right and then he said, "Jason's men called and they got the men. They say it was a case of mistaken identities but they couldn't explain the ropes and tape that was found in the car. They were after you and underestimated you. I'm not taking any more chances. I want Jason's men closer to you from now on and I don't want any arguing. This is what will be until all the publicity dies down and then we'll think of something else," Luke said as they sat down in the living room. "All right. After tonight, I understand. I wasn't paying attention and they did almost get me," Lucky told them and he started rub his neck. "You hurt?" Laura asked him. "No. My neck is just sore," Lucky told her. "I want Jeff to check you out tomorrow. Alexis signed a paper saying we can make medical decisions for you, just in case you had to go to the hospital," Luke told him. Lucky was about to argue but the looks he got cut him off. Nikolas stood in the doorway looking at the three of them and almost laughed. Lucky's family was coming together it was just going to take some more time. Nikolas and Lucky headed up to get some sleep. Lucky forgot his bag. Luke went out to get it for him. He was also checking out the house just in case of more trouble. Luke called Alexis & Ned's voice mail before going to bed. She said she would check it every day just in case he needed to get in touch with her. Laura was waiting up for him when he climbed into bed. "I don't believe we have to have her permission to take our own son to the hospital," she said as he climbed in beside her. "Laura, you know why that is and we can't do anything about it. I'm just glad Alexis was smart enough to have him stay with us. I would hate to think what could have happen if he was staying in that house alone for a week," Luke said pulling her close to him. "And Angel, don't cut down Alexis in front of Lucky. He is confused and this fighting isn't helping him." "I won't and I plan on talking to him about what you told me. I think it is time my son and I have a talk about the past," Laura said. Luke smiled at her and then turned off the light. They both went to sleep, happy to have all their kids under one roof at least for a while. The next morning Laura fixed a big breakfast while Luke and the boys checked out the car. The back end wasn't damaged too much but it was going to cost a good amount of money to get it fixed. Luke called Jason and he had the name of a very good repair shop that could fix the car. They were coming over to pick it up that day and get right on it. "I'm just glad you're not hurt," Luke said walking into the house. "Me, too. Alexis should have thought of this," Nikolas said. "She has been around all the threats long enough to know better." "I don't think she was thinking straight. The wedding has caused her a lot of problems and the Quartermaines didn't help matters," Lucky told them in her defense. "I know and it won't happen again. I'll make sure of it," Luke said opening the door of the house just as the phone rang. Luke answered it and it was Alexis. She was exited and demanded an explanation. Luke told her, trying to hide his temper from Lucky. He did blame her but it wasn't going to help yelling at her in front of Lucky. She agreed with Luke and left the protection up to him. She asked to talk to Lucky. Luke handed him the phone and went into the kitchen to get out of the way. "I'm fine Alexis and don't worry about me, just relax and have fun," he told her. "I'll worry about you and do me a favor, don't take any extra chances?" she told him. Lucky promised and then said his good byes. He found Laura in the kitchen taking out her anger on the eggs. They were nice and scrabbled by that time. Lucky noticed it but didn't say anything. He sat at the breakfast table, and rubbed his neck the entire meal. He hated to admit but it was sore. Laura watched him and after breakfast left the dishes for Luke and Nikolas. She was going to have Lucky check out. Lucky tried to argue with her but didn't get anywhere. He finally gave up and let her take him to the hospital. Jason had sent some men over early and one them drove them to the hospital. ~~~~~~~~~~ Laura waited in the waiting area for Dr. Jeff Webber to get done checking out Lucky. Bobbie walked up and sat down beside her. "Hi, Laura," she said. "Hi, Bobbie. I haven't seen you around sense the trail. Luke tells me that you and Jerry Jax are becoming more then friends," Laura said. "Yes, we have. Laura, I can only dream what you are going through right now but I also see Lucky's side. Can you and Alexis come to an agreement that won't end up pulling him apart?" Bobbie pleaded with her. "You can never see my side, can you? I'm always wrong but Bobbie what would you do if Lucas' real mother showed up after all these years and demand time with him?" Laura asked. "I don't know but if he wanted to know her, I would most probably give in but only for his sake. I want you to think about something but don't give me an answer. Lucky almost died and you could be mourning him right now. Is all of this worth the time you have with him or is there a better way?" Bobbie said and got up to go on her rounds. Laura sat and watched her go. She closed her eyes and a picture of Lucky laying in that bed with the monitors, the tubes, and the sound of the respirator breathing for him. Lucky was just steps away from death and Bobbie was right, he might not here right now. The problem for Laura was that Alexis was a reminder of Luke's faults. She loved Lucky but she got him because her husband cheated on her with Alexis. Lucky walked up and interrupted her thoughts, "Mom, are you Ok?" he asked. "Yes, I didn't get much sleep last night. What did Jeff say?" she asked. "Just a stiff neck," Lucky said. "Good. Lucky, let's got to the park. I want to talk to you," she suggested. Lucky agreed and they headed to the park. During the trip Laura was trying to think of what to say to him without sounding offensive. They sat down on one of the park benches and watched the kids play in silence. Lucky looked at her and asked, "Mom, why are we here?" "I want to talk to you, but I'm having trouble finding the words," she said. "Dad told you?" Lucky said softly. "Yes. Lucky that wasn't me. I could never have said those words to you or physically harmed you. Yes, Alexis gave birth to you, but I raised you. I can't lie and say that I wasn't mad at first but that anger was always directed at your father, never at you," Laura said looking at him directly in the eye. "I know that but every time I look at you, I see that day and hear those words. Mom, I don't know where I belong any more. Things are messed up and I'm trying to figure them out. Alexis and you aren't helping. I don't know how to say this any other way. The two of you are treating me as a prize or something. For my sake, can't you both get along?" he asked her. Laura took a deep breath and said, "I don't know, Lucky. I need to think about that before I answer you," she told him honestly. Lucky knew he couldn't ask for anything else and let the matter drop. He just hopped in time things would get better. Chapter 36 Back to What's the Truth? |
