| Chapter Twenty Three Luke was alone in Lucky's room. He hadn't left his son side for over a week. The entire Spencer family was living in the waiting room at GH. The doctor's said Lucky was getting better but Luke didn't see it. Robert was across the hall recovering from being held prisoner by the Cassadines. Robin was shocked to find him alive but very grateful. Father and Daughter spent hours talking about the years between them and they still had a lot of time to make up for. Robert didn't know about Anna and the WSB was checking on her for him. He didn't have much hope something told him Anna was gone. Robert walked into Lucky's room and sat beside Luke. "How is he?" Robert asked. "They say he is getting better but I haven't seen much different. I just wish the kid would wake up," Luke told Robert with tears in his eyes. "He will. He is your son and Spencer's don't give up. I want to thank you. You saved my life and I don't know how to repay you," Robert told him. "Love Robin and don't ever take advantage of that love," Luke said brushing his hand through Lucky's hair. "She is the best thing you ever had and don't mess it up. They can leave you at any time." "I won't," Robert said. "Lucky isnt going anywhere. He is going to make it." Robert left the room after that. Early in the morning Luke walked into the waiting room and shook Alexis and Laura awake. "You two have a son, who is asking for you," he said with a big grin on his face. They both got up and quickly went to see Lucky. Lucky was sitting up in bed with pillows supporting his back. He still looked pale, but he did seemed more alert this time around. "Hi," he said in a soft voice. "Lucky," both of them said and hugged him. Lucky couldn't breath and was trying to get them to stop when Luke walked into the room. Luke saw his face and said, "Ladies. I don't think he can breath." They let him go and just looked at him. Both were just glad to see him alive and wake, Lucky finally broke the silence. "Dad said that Victor is going to stand trail and no one can find the others. What's going to happen now?" he asked. "Nikolas is going to live with me. I turned everything over to a cousin but the hospital and ten percent of the cash. We moved Sheba to a farm not far from here. I going to help Jasper Jax rebuild the damage his brother did in the docks project and Nikolas is going to work for your father." Alexis told him. "That's great. What about you and dad?" Lucky asked her. "What about us?" Alexis said. "The wedding?" Lucky asked. "Should we tell him," Alexis said with a laugh. "Tell me, what?" Lucky asked them, getting a little upset. "All right," Luke said and handed Lucky a piece of paper. Lucky looked over the wedding license and started to laugh. "How did you pull this off under Victor's nose," Lucky asked them. "Sonny's friends. He hired an actor to play the priest and the rest of was easy. Victor never read the signature very good," Luke said. "He sure didn't. Now, I get the outfits in the wedding," Lucky laughed. The clerk's name on the licenses was Al Capone and the priest was Father Elliott. Luke started to laugh. "They tried to pull the same thing with us. So, I just turned the tables on them. Sonny went to tell Victor he wasn't very happy and old Vic isn't going to like the roommate Jason picked out for him," Luke said. "Did everyone know it but me?" Lucky asked them. "Yes, and we would have told you but Victor didn't let you near any of us," Laura said. "I know why now. He was killing me," Lucky said quietly. "You tried not to take those pills, Lucky. None of this was your fault. He was trying to kill both of us. We were just lucky and found out in time. I would have arrived too late if Nikolas hadn't told me about Lance," Luke said comforting his son. "Where is he and what does he have to do with this?" Lucky asked them. "He is Juvy hall. He is being charged with trying to kill you. He is Victor's son," Luke said. "So, what is the truth?" Lucky asked them. He didn't know Lance and only gave him a very little consideration. He remembered being smothered by someone and now he knew who was doing it. "The truth is simple. Alexis gave birth to you and Laura is your mother. We all care what happens to you and decided what ever you want is all right with us," Luke said. "I would like to get to know Alexis, but I understand everything about the past. I don't like it but I am going to do things that I don't want my kids to know about. Your life before me is none of my business. It is only when your past affects me that I should know about it," Lucky told his parents. "You're right. I'm sorry about not telling you," Luke said. "We should have and maybe this wouldn't have blown up in our faces as it did." "Any more, secrets?" Lucky asked them. "No. You now know everything," Alexis said. "I do think we all should talk to Gail about this. It isn't going to go away over night and it might help with the adjustment of becoming one family." "Family? The Cassadines and the Spencers in one family? Gail is going to need a lot of hours to work that one through," Lucky said with a laugh. "Dad, by the way. What is your last name?" "Spencer, same as yours," Luke said. "And I'm going to marry Laura when you get out of here. We are going to have a real wedding." "I'm glad," Lucky smiled at his father. He slipped down under the covers and went sleep. They watched him for along time but slowly left the room. "Luke, you have changed in all of this. What happened?" Laura asked him as they left Lucky's room. "I watched my son slowly slip way from me. The lies were the thing that almost killed him. The Cassadines wouldn't have had the power without them. I almost let them destroy me. I'm not going to let it happen twice and Alexis is right about talking to Gail. She might even help me get to know Nikolas. I don't know, but it wouldn't hurt," Luke said, wrapping his arms around her. "Are you my Luke Spencer or a fake?" Laura asked him. "What do you think?" He said and kissed her. "You're my Luke. I'm going to go get a fast divorce from Stavros when I'm sure Lucky is better. Sonny is going with me to make sure nothing happens. When we get back, I want a simple wedding just some good friends and family. I don't even need a fancy dress. I love you Luke and want to spend the rest of my life with you." she said pulling him closer. "Too bad they haven't been found dead." "I love you, too. Your plans sound great. Laura, we almost lost him and I don't want to do this again. No more secrets between us. They have almost killed our son, he said. Luke was ignoring her last remark. The less she knew, the better on that point or Mac might finally get Jason and Sonny in jail. "I promise. Lucky is too important to either of us to let this happen again," she said and the Spencers headed home to rest for the first time in weeks. (Note: I'm not a doctor. This only sounds good for this story) The next day Dr. Eve Lambert entered Lucky's room, she noticed that he was rubbing his right hand. She walked up beside the bed and asked, "What's wrong with your hand?" "I can't feel them." Lucky said still rubbing his hand. Dr. Lambert took his wrist and notice right away that they were cold and the color was not quite right. "I'm going to order some test and will see what is going on. You just relax and rest this is most probably just some side affects from the poison. Don't worry about it," she comforted Lucky. Eve check made some marks on the chart and left the room. She didn't tell Lucky but she was worried about his hands something wasn't right. Dr. Lambert ran into Luke in the hallway. He was going to check on Lucky. "Mr. Spencer. I need to talk to you for a moment about Lucky." she said guiding Luke toward one of the waiting areas that werent being used. "What's wrong?" Luke asked a little worried about her tone of voice. He was hoping it was nothing. "Lucky has been through enough over the past few months. He doesn't need any more trouble," thought Luke. "I just left Lucky's room and learned his hands haven't gained the circulation back in them as they should have. I'm going to order some test to see what the problem is but because of the complex form of poison he was given, we don't know what kind of damage that was done. I know you have some kind of connections with a government group. They have the poison. I need the entire list of drugs that was in those pills. The more information I get. The better it will be for Lucky. Can you help me get this information? I haven't got very far and the longer it takes, the more damage those drugs will do to Lucky." she said with concern. "You got it, Doc. What do you think is wrong with Lucky's hands?" Luke asked her with a very worried look on his face. "I don't know but it isn't good. His hands are ice cold and the color is way off. Like I said, I won't know more until I run some tests but as soon as I get the information, I will come and tell you. I haven't told Lucky. I was leaving that up to you and Laura." she told him. Eve left, heading off to order the test for Lucky. Luke started toward Lucky's room, trying to think of what to tell his son. Luke entered the room and Lucky was still rubbing his hands. Luke noticed that Dr. Lambert was right. The color of Lucky's hands was a shade lighter then his arms. Luke sat down beside the bed and asked. "How do you feel, Cowboy?" "Better. I'm still tired but at least my stomach isn't doing loops any more. Dad, Dr. Lambert was just in here. She didn't say so but there is something wrong with my hands. What's going on?" Lucky asked looking directly into Luke's eyes and he could tell something wasn't right just from the look he got. "She doesn't know and she won't until they run some tests, but the poison Victor gave you messed up your system. She thinks your circulation is off and that is why your hands are cold and the color is off." Luke explained. "Would that make them numb?" Lucky asked. "I don't know but lets not worry too much until the tests are done. It might be nothing and tomorrow this will just go away," Luke said more for him then Lucky. He was worried. "How much more damage are the Cassadines going to cause his family?" wondered Luke. An orderly walked in right then with a wheelchair. "I'm sorry but the doctor wants to have some test run. I'm going to take you downstairs for a while, the orderly said. He helped Lucky into the wheelchair and took him for the test. Luke went to call Laura and tell her about the test. She stayed home with Lulu today. They both hadn't slept but Laura was worse. He caught her sleeping while making breakfast that morning and ordered her to stay home. She only did after making Luke promise that if anything changes, he would call her and if he didn't she threatened to kill him. After calling Laura, Luke found Alexis heading toward Lucky's room and he gave her the same information. He noticed Nikolas standing off in the background listening. Luke walked over and said. "You don't have to hide. He is your brother and you have every right to know about this, too." Nikolas was still trying to get used to Luke not threatening him. He didn't know how to take the change in Luke's attitude toward him after finding out he was his son. Nikolas asked, "What did the doctor say was wrong?" "She doesn't know and doesn't help the fact that no one knows what is in those pills. I'm going to call the WSB and get them to rush the information about them over to Dr. Lambert. She going to need it to help Lucky." Luke told both Nikolas and Alexis and excused himself to make the call. "Alexis? Lucky is going to be all right?" Nikolas asked her. "I don't know. I would love to shove those pills down Victor's throat and see how he would like it," she said walking toward the elevator. "Let's go down to the cafeteria and get something to drink. We might have to wait awhile." she told the nurse at the desk to contact them when Lucky gets back into his room. Nikolas sat sipping his drink. He was lost in thought when Alexis broke in and asked. "What are you going to do?" "I don't know yet. I don't want to run this hospital and I know Lucky sure wouldn't. I was hoping you would take over on that aspect. Luke did offer to let me work for him at the club and I might try that. We might learn something about each other." Nikolas said. "That is a start and I will run the hospital and with Stefan's death you got everything he had. Katherine Bell left him everything that she got from Damian Smith and now it is yours. I'll help you with all of that as well if you want me, too." she offered. "Thanks about everything, I don't know what I would do if you weren't around." Nikolas told her. "You would think of something and you could always live with the Spencers." she said to him with a smile. "I don't know if I could do that. I'm still confused on a lot of things. I have an appointment to talk to Gail tomorrow. I hope she can help straighten my feelings out on everything, he said looking at his watch. "I'm glad. I have one tomorrow, too. Lucky and I have a lot to work out and no matter what he says. He is confused, as you are." Alexis said. They sat and talked for about an hour when Bobbie Spencer walked up to the table and said. "Lucky is back in his room. You can go up now." "How did the test go?" Alexis asked as the three of them rode the elevator up. "We don't know yet, but it didn't look good." Bobbie told her. "Lucky needs a little cheering up. I know you have been waiting to see him that is why I went to get you." As they neared to Lucky's room, they found Luke talking to Robert Scorpio. He was just being released and Luke didn't look too happy. "I don't believe those paper pushers in Washington are giving me the run around. The longer it takes the longer it will take for Lucky to get better." He yelled. "Calm down. I'll get the information you need. There are a few people in Washington that owe me a favor or two. Don't worry Luke, this is my chance to pay you back for saving my life." Robert told him. Robin walked up with Jason and asked. "What's wrong?" Still in shock that her father was still alive. They haven't talked much about Jason, Stone, or her HIV status. She was waiting until he got better. She hopped Luke didn't tell him before she could. "The WSB is giving Luke the run around on the test of that poison Victor gave Lucky. I'm going to need the use of the computer in Penthouse. Do you know who owns it now?" Robert asked. "I do and we can head there right now if you want." Jason said. "I'm Jason Morgan, Mr. Scorpio and a good friend of your daughters. I'm glad to get a chance to meet you." Jason held out his hand to shake with Robert. Robert looked at him for a long moment then cautiously shook hands with him. He had a lot more talking to do with Robin. Mac had told him some about Jason Morgan and what he heard, he didn't like, but this wasn't the time or the place to get into a discussion. So, Robert said good bye to Luke and they headed back to Jason's penthouse. Chapter 24 Back to What's the Truth? |
