Chapter Twenty Luckys Slip Up

Luke spent the rest of the day and late into the night talking to Lucky.
Finally, he picked him up and started rocking back and forth. Stefan must be
the most patient person in the world. The had put up with this tape for over a
week. Luke said out loud.

Its the only time, I was aloud to play it. He hates every song on it. Lucky
said looking up at his father.

Cowboy! came Lukes startled reply.

How long have I been out? Lucky asked.

Around three days. Luke said

I hate my life. Lucky said getting up and started to pace.

I spent most of my life getting beaten for something, I havent the slightest
idea why. I have been told that Im dumb, worthless, and a no account. Stavros
came up with a lot more and his favorite was Little Bastard. Dad, Im tired of
all of it. I hate the fact that Im not allowed an opinion or an idea of my own.
Everything, I have ever done was controlled. Lucky said.

Luke reached out and grabbed him. Cowboy, I would do anything to change your
life, but I cant. The Cassadines have done a good number on both of us. The
only thing we can do is to fight back. The best way to do that is to face what
has been done. We both spent the last year avoiding talking about your life on
the island. I think it is time we start, he said.

What do you want to know? Lucky asked.

Anything you want to tell me. Luke said.

Ok. How about Helena? I have mixed feelings for her. She could be nice to me
one minute and the next as cold as ice. I never knew where I stood with her.
Those art and music lessons were her idea. She knew Nikolas hated them but he
was forced to do them because of me. Stavros never knew about it. He would have
called them all off. Lucky said.

How did that start? Luke asked.

I was about six and it had rained all that week. Miss Landsberry got tired of
us being under foot. So, she covered the table with butcher paper and placed
paints, markers, and pencils beside us. She told us to draw or paint something.
Helena came into see what we were up to and like what she found. She said that
the Arts were a good way to have a rounded education. So she hired a teacher
that did both art and music. Nikky only did them because I liked it. He told me
this was his way making some things up to me. They only lasted two years. The
teacher said I didnt need them any more and the rest of it would only come with
practice and time. Lucky said.

What did Stavros say about Nikkys lack of talent? Luke asked.

He didnt. I did most of the drawings he saw. I always wondered what he would
have done if he knew the truth. Lucky said. Suddenly, a sly smile came across
his face.

What? Luke asked.

Just remembering the time, I got back at him. I would have gotten away with it,
but Ari opened his big mouth. Lucky said.

What did you do? Luke asked a little curious.

I made his desk keep jamming for over week. Every time someone looked at it
things worked fine, but when he tried. It didnt. Then one day? I stopped. I did
how ever, move one of Helenas very prickly cactus right behind the desk. So,
when Stavros pulled on draw hard. He ended up in the cactus. Lucky laughed.

Smooth. I bet he had trouble sitting down after that. Luke laughed.

Yes and so did I. Ari told Stavros who did it and that night, While I slept
Stavros came in to beat me. I thought I was dead. No one was around to stop him
this time, but suddenly Helena and they appeared to help. She looked after me
and they talked to Stavros. I was fourteen and she rocked me. I hurt all over
and she just talked to me until I went to sleep. That was the night she told me
about the surprise I was going to get on my sixteenth birthday. Dad, I never
knew why Ari hated me. He even got slapped for causing all that trouble. His
mouth was black and blue for weeks. Lucky said.

Lukes mind was racing. They? What was he referring to and what did the hag
want? Cowboy, Who is They? Luke asked.

I dont know. Lucky said a little jumpy. Dad, Im worried. he said avoiding
Lukes eyes. The nightmare I had a while ago was the same as the one on the
island. What if the sleep walking returns too. Lucky asked.

How did you know you walked in your sleep? Luke asked.

Stefan, Alexis, and Nikolas told me. They would find me looking at them at
night. They would guide me back to my room and put me to bed. They werent to
worried because I didnt have anywhere to go. Lucky said.

Now I know why Stefan and Alexis check on you so much. They were afraid of you
going off somewhere. Luke said.

Yes and of course because of the nightmares. I didnt have the tape to help it
stay away. Lucky said.

What are you talking about? Luke asked.

Helena got tired of me screaming at night because of the dream. So she had
They hypnotize me. They gave me a phrase to make the dream stop. Then They
made this tape with this phrase in it and I played it at night. When I did, the
dreams stopped. Lucky said.

When did this all start? Luke asked trying not to push, because Lucky was
starting to get jumpy.

I was ten. Lucky said.

What was on the tape? he asked moving closer to Lucky.

Its dumb. Lucky said.

No. Tell me Cowboy. Luke demanded.

Have you ever heard of the song that you would sing nursery rhymes to? Lucky
asked.

No. Luke replied trying to shake this feeling he was getting.

You sing the window, the window, the second story window. High low, low high
throw it out the window and the rhyme. One of the rhymes was the phrase. Lucky
said moving away.

Do you know which one it was? Luke asked looking worriedly at his son.

No. Lucky said.

Luke slow went through every nursery rime he knew. He was about to give up when
he started to sing the song. Lucky was staring at the wall as if waiting for
something. He said the words One, Two. and Lucky started to rock back and
forth and sing. One, Two. Michaels through. Three, Four. Luke for sure. Five,
Six. Luckys fixed. Seven, Eight. Spencers Gate. Nine, Ten. Helena wins. Luke
froze and the more he tried to get Lucky to stop, the louder he got. Robert and
Lake came in to see what was wrong. Luke looked at Robert with scared eyes.

Rob. I dont like any of this. he said pointing to Lucky. Who was still
singing and rocking.
