Chapter 14:

Not even a full twenty-four hours after Bobbie's death, the judge in charge of Lucky's case called everyone involved to his chambers for a little talk. Ruby had a bad feeling about all of this but Jake had promised her that he would do all he could to keep Lucky with his family. Ruby thanked him but didn't have her hopes up too high. The judge made it clear what he thought about single people raising a teenage boy alone. They all ready had lost once and she was well prepared to lose again.

Kevin was going to try the same thing but for his own reasons. Lucky had been acting strangely ever since he heard about Bobbie's death. He hadn't shown any emotion and that wasn't good. It was like he stopped reacting to everyone around him. Kevin even thought that sometimes he sounded a lot like his father and that worried him. Luke was a master at hiding how he felt from everyone and now his son was copying him. Kevin didn't like this at all and was worried about how Lucky would react to being ripped from his family.

Lucky sat beside his Aunts as the judge walked into the room and took off his long black robe. This was the first time Lucky met the judge that was calling the shots in his life and he wasn't too impressed. The judge was of average height with an average build and was slightly balding. Lucky was tired of this man and was sick of this guy making decisions about his life without hearing him out. One way or another Lucky was going to heard today.

"Good afternoon," the judge said as he sat down at his desk. "I am sorry that we have to get together so soon after Mr. and Mrs. Cassadines' tragic deaths but it couldn't be helped. Lucas Jr.'s welfare is my main concern at the moment."

"Our's as well," Jake Meyer said, "and that is why we want to ask you to rethink your position about Mrs. Anderson or Miss Vining getting custody of their nephew.".

"I understand why they feel the need to look after him but I think in this case, Lucas would be better off in a more stable environment,". the judge said.

"Your honor?" Kevin said trying to get the judge's attention but the judge cut him off.

"I read your report Dr. Collins and I have noted it but it didn't change my mind. I have found a home for Lucas that fits all his needs. Stability and family at the same time," the judge said and as if on cue. Helena, Nikolas, and Alexis walked into the room.

Lucky looked at the Cassadines and got cold all over. He put the pieces together way before anyone else did and got to his feet to protest. As he started to talk, Ruby and Amy tried to quiet him but they weren't able to do it. Lucky just pushed them off with out to much trouble. His anger toward the Cassadines took over and he wasn't going to quitted for any reason. "No,". he snapped as he got to his feet. Lucky's blue eyes were cold and lifeless and hate fill everyone one of his words. "I am sick of you thinking you know what is best for me. I left that house for a reason. It wasn't just Stefan that I hated but all Cassadines. If I had my way all of them would be dead and that includes the demon prince.".

The judge looked at Lucky with a shocked expression on his face. He knew they young man didn't like the Cassadines that much but never expected a reaction such as this. "Young man, I want you to sit down and behave yourself," the judge said finally as he recovered his initial reaction.

"I am calm but I'm not going to sit down. I am sick of you saying what is best for me without even talking to me. I hate all Cassadines and they are not my family. I will not live with them and that is final." Lucky stayed standing and then slowly crossed both his arms and glared at the judge.

Everyone looked at shock at Lucky and saw a lot in Luke in him at that very moment and were worried. Lucky had finally stopped crying and started fighting. Kevin leaned over and whispered something to Lucky but the kid just shoved him off. The judge was close to losing his temper, but tried one more time to reason with Lucky. "I know you think you hate the Cassadines but Nikolas is your brother and I feel that you boys could help each other out dealing with your losses."

Lucky laughed a cold and empty laugh and looked at the judge, his eyes growing even colder. "Nikolas is not my brother. My mother was used to give birth to that demon but that doesn't make him my brother. I will not live with them and if you make me, there will be serious results. I am telling you this now. Nikolas will not live more than a few days. I will finish off what my father started and wipe the planet of Cassadines." His words were clear and his expression unmoving. Everyone around him looked at him in shock but the ones that knew Lucky saw he wasn't joking. He would do what he said and that was the most frightening thing of them all.

Helena stood watching his reactions with a pleased look on her face. She liked the turn of events and figured with a little time and training that she could have full control over Lucky. "Lucas," Helena said walking toward him with a grandmotherly concern on her face. "I am not the monster you were led to believe. I am opening my home because like the judge, I feel you and Nikolas need each other."

Lucky rolled his eyes and said, "Ice Queen, get lost. I am not that dumb. I know that you are as deadly as a viper and I'm not playing your game. I'm am Luke Spencer's son and there is no way in hell that I will live with the Cassadines.".
Lucky moved even closer to Helena to show he wasn't afraid of her. This bothered Helena just a little but she didn't show it. She had never expected to see Lucky be as cold as Luke. She soon realized that maybe Lucky meet what he said and would really hurt Nikolas if forced to come live with them. Helena suddenly started to rethink her plan about having both boys under one roof.

Kevin and Jake finally both stood up and grabbed Lucky by the shoulders, forcing him into his chair. Lucky glared at them and tried to open his mouth but Kevin spoke first. "You stay sitting and be quiet." Kevin ordered and Lucky just glowered at him. Kevin then turn stood and addressed the judge. "Your honor, may we talk out side?"

The judge nodded his head and both men stepped out side for a few moments. Lucky watched them go with the same cold look and then watched as Helena moved away and sat down on the other side of the room. Lucky was going to say something else but Ruby stopped him. "Don't you dare," she said reading his mind.
"You've said enough." Lucky looked at her but the look she gave him kept him quiet for now.

A few moments later the judge and Kevin walked back into the room and Kevin took his seat again. "Mrs. Cassadine," the judge said trying to regain his composure after Lucky's little out burst. "I just had a talk with Doctor Collins and I have to agree with him. Lucas' anger towards your family, even if it is misdirected, does prevent a problem. So, I hope you understand the reason for me not putting the boy in your care at this time. I have left Lucky's care up to his doctor and until things get cleared up."

"Misdirected!!" Lucky said but all the adults around him quieted him at once and all the judge and Helena did was ignore him.

"I quite agree with you. I did this for my grandson but I now see that Lucky's fathers delusions have warped the boy against us. I hope some day he will see the truth but for now I will accept your decision," Helena said looking at Lucky with pity in her eyes.

Lucky was about to speak but Amy placed her hand over his mouth to prevent it. The judge dismissed them and the group walked out of the room. Kevin and the others stood beside Lucky until they were sure the Cassadines were gone before letting him walk free. "Do you believe that witch?" Lucky asked as the group moved away.

"Right now, I am having trouble believing you," Ruby said glaring at her nephew with a stunned look on her face.

"My behavior?" Lucky said not realizing what he did was so wrong. "What did I do?".

"You threatened the Cassadines in front of a judge!!" Kevin said looking at Lucky as he was trying to figure out what to do about him.

"So," Lucky said shrugging his shoulders. "They asked for it. I'm sick of them trying to destroy my life. I am not going to sit by and let it happen." And with those words Lucky walked away, leaving the adults around him in complete shock.

As soon as Lucky got back from the courthouse, he headed outside to get as far way from the strange looks of the adults in his life as he could. All the way back to the house, Lucky couldn't figure out way everyone was so upset with him. He told the judge exactly how he felt and now people were on his case for some reason. Even Kevin, who normally made sense to Lucky, now talked in circles.

Lucky was leaning against the tree in the back yard lost in his own thoughts that it took him awhile to notice Lucas leaning against the back of the garage with his head buried in his knees. Lucky got curious and walked over to see what was the matter. As he got closer, Lucky heard Lucas' silent sobs but they stopped suddenly when Lucas looked up and saw Lucky. "Hi,". Lucky said as he sat down beside the boy.

"Hi," came Lucas' small reply.

"What's wrong?" Lucky asked with a concerned look on his face for the kid.
"I miss my mom," Lucas said sadly.

"I miss her to," Lucky admitted.

"No you don't, Lucas said coldly, "If you missed her then you would cry like the rest of us."

Lucas hit Lucky hard and he looked at the kid with a pained look on his face. "Lucas, I miss Bobbie just as much as I miss my mother and sister. I just can't cry for her. I tried but I have nothing left in me any more," Lucky admitted.

"Why? If you miss her then why not show it?" Lucas asked trying to understand Lucky's point of view on this.

"I guess it is because I have lost so much this past year. Mom and Lu took it all and now I have nothing left for anyone else. I do miss Bobbie and I want her alive as bad as I do my own mother but I have no tears for her. I might some day but not now," Lucky said.

"You know, I guess I see your point. I didn't know how to act when your mother died. I hardly knew her and when people around me cried I just stood still and watched. Now, our places are switched and I hurt as bad as you do. Now, I see your side of things and I hate Stefan as well," Lucas told him.

"I wish you didn't have to feel like me. I wish the Cassadines would just vanish an go away forever," Lucky told him.

"I like Nikolas, but not the others. Not any more," Lucas admitted.

Lucky and Lucas sat there in silence for a time. It wasn't until Lucas started tossing a ball into the air absently that Lucky broke the silence. "How about playing ball with me? I'm sure your mother wouldn't mind it," Lucky said. Knowing how he felt when he did something that was fun after his mothers death, It felt like he was not honoring her at all. Lucas smiled sadly and got up and started to toss the ball back and forth to each other.

They didn't know it but the adults in the house were watching this closely. "He at least acts normal now," Amy said softly as she found it hard to pull her eyes off of Lucky.

"Now, but what if something sets him off and he gets cold again? What do we do then?" Tony asked looking at Kevin for some answers.

But it was Ruby that spoke up, "The only people we have to watch Lucky around are the Cassadines and that shouldn't be to much of a problem. They don't leave that island much of theres anyway."

"It isn't Lucky running into the Cassadines that bothers me but his reaction to them. Ruby, was Luke this bad when he was Lucky's age?" Kevin asked as he tried to figure out how to deal with the situation.

"No, not as bad but I can see a lot Luke in him," Ruby said and then decided to a approach the subject that has been bugging her since Lucky's out burst in court.

"Kevin, I have been thinking and I think it is time they meet. Luke might be the one that helps Lucky get past this road block."

"I think you're right but I want to talk to Luke first before it happens. If things go well, I think they could meet by the weekend," Kevin said.

"Good. I think the sooner it happens, the better it will be for the both of them," Ruby said and then she went back to the window and watched the two boys outside. Kevin left soon afterwards to talk to Luke leaving Lucky in his Aunt Ruby and Uncle Tony's care. It wasn't too long after he was gone that Lucky was tested to his limit on how much he would take of the Cassadines.

Lucas and Lucky were so wrapped in the tossing the ball back and forth that they didn't see the limo pull up and the three figures get out. Nikolas, who had wanted to come to see Lucas, wasn't looking forward to another run in with Lucky but he also wasn't going to have him run him off either. So, Nikolas walked up to Lucas just as he tossed the ball to Lucky. "Hi," he said as he watched Lucky with one eye and tired to talk to Lucas as if nothing was wrong.

"Hi,". Lucas said glad that Nikolas stopped to see him. In fact, Lucas was so glad to see Nikolas that he missed Lucky's reaction. Lucky had caught the ball and almost threw it right and Nikolas head but the young boy got in the way that Lucky was forced to stand there with the ball tightly gripped in his hands as the two talked. Nikolas saw all of this but ignored Lucky and put all of his attention on Lucas. The boy talked a mile a minute and soon asked Nikolas to join them.
Lucky looked at Nikolas with a cold hateful expression and Nikolas looked in his direction debating how to back down without hurting Lucas' feelings. It was Tony that spoke for Nikolas and Lucky giving them no chance to say anything else.

"Good. I was about to say we take this game to the park,". Tony said walking up toward the group. He stopped by Lucky and said, "Lucas, go to the car with Nikolas. Lucky and I will get the bats and mitts.". He then pulled Lucky toward the storage shed that stood in the back of the house. Lucas smiled greatly and rushed off. Nikolas was forced to go along because he was afraid to hurt the child's feelings. The problem was that he couldn't help but see how much Lucky hated the idea. He was a little worried what was going to happen at the park.

Tony pulled Lucky inside the shed and before Lucky could open his mouth Tony spoke first. "Ok, I know you hate this idea. So, you don't have to even tell me. Lucas has just lost his mother and Nikolas makes him happy. I am not going to let you destroy that for him. So, you will play this game and smile as you're doing it. Not for me or anyone else, but for Lucas. He needs this more than you know. His mother's death could affect his health and I take that very much in consideration and so will you.". Tony had got right in Lucky's face and stood there glaring at him.

Lucky, still glaring at Tony, did listen to his words and slowly relented. "Ok, I'll play good this one time,". Lucky told him and grabbed that bat from the counter and walked out. Tony noticed he took the bat and he hoped Lucky would keep his word. He could almost see Lucky going after Nikolas with that bat.
