| Chapter 18 Laura was just filling out the papers for Lucky's release when Bobbie walked up and without even a greeting for her sister in-law, demanded, "What do you think you are doing?" "Taking Lucky home," Laura said. She wasn't in the mood to deal with Bobbie but from the look on the other woman's face, Laura had a feeling she was going to have to anyway. "That isn't what I was talking about. I heard from Carly about your plans to make Stefan your partner in my brother's club. So, tell me Laura, have you lost your mind or is this what you really think of my bother by letting his killer take over his dream as well as his family?" Bobbie demanded, her eyes were cold with hate and her face was hard as steel. "I don't understand you and at the moment I don't want to. Steven did not kill Luke and if I want him be my partner in the club, then that is my business. Not yours or that tramp of a daughter of yours, and as for Sonny, his line of work not only took my son's childhood but almost took your brother's life, as well. I'm not losing Lucky to a life connected to the mob and I'll be damned if I am going to regret this decision. Now, if you don't mind, I have son to take home. So, get out of my face," Laura said and she tried to get by but Bobbie refused to move. "So, you think having a Cassadine as your partner is going to be better? At least, Sonny didn't try to rule the world or force someone's woman to breed with them," Bobbie snapped. "Why you bitch," Laura said and she raised her hand and slapped Bobbie hard across the face. Bobbie didn't just stand there and take it. She slugged Laura hard back and the two women were soon going at it. Alan and Tony showed up not long after that and pulled the women apart. "Bobbie. Laura. Stop it!" Alan shouted as he tried to hold on to Laura to keep her from going after Bobbie. "What's going on?" Tony asked looking at his ex-wife and his ex sister in-law with a confused look on his face. "What is going on," Laura said as she pulled free from Alan and smoothed her outfit. "An old fight that has never ended," Laura said to the men and then she just addressed Bobbie. "I am not going to prevent you from seeing my children because you are Luke's sister but I hope you will keep your opinion of Steven to yourself. Lucky has enough to deal with and Lu is just too young to understand these things." And before Bobbie or anyone else could say one more word, Laura walked away and headed to Lucky's room. Tony looked at his ex-wife and asked, "What was that about?" "Laura made Stefan her partner in Luke's and I wanted to know why she did it," Bobbie told them. "Why would you care? Stefan or Steven, what ever he goes by now, has become a real friend to Lucky and from just the little time he spent with the kid, I have seen a big difference in Lucky's mood," Alan told her. "He killed my brother and is now trying to move in on his life and you act like it is no big deal," Bobbie said shocked and hurt that Alan could turn on her in this way and in a fit of rage she stormed away from the men and down the hall. Alan was glad it wasn't in the same direction as Laura had gone and he looked Tony and asked, "What do you think?" "I think that Laura did the right thing. Sonny gets people killed and having him around Lucky and Lu all the time puts their lives in danger," Tony told him. "I'm with you but I wouldn't tell Bobbie that," Alan said with a weary look down the hall in the direction Bobbie had just vanished down. "Me, neither. She might never let me see Lucas," Tony said and he then headed to his rounds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` Lucky knew from the look on his mother's face and her actions that something was up, but he kept quiet until they were almost home. He finally found the courage and asked, "Mom, what's wrong?" "I had run in with your Aunt Bobbie. She didn't like a decision I made," Laura told him. "About dad?" Lucky asked a little unsure if he wanted to know now. "Yes, honey and about our life," Laura said and after pausing for a few moments she went on. "You see, I asked Sonny to sell his part of the club to me and then I offered Steven that share." Lucky sat there for a long time, not saying a word and Laura started to wonder if he was going to hate the idea as well. "Why did you do it?" Lucky asked. "Sonny's life is dangerous and I am afraid some day you'll find yourself involved in the mob. You are drawn to action and excitement. And I can't stand to see you in that world or worse to take bullet meant for Sonny or Jason. As for Steven, I don't know a thing about the club and I was trying to help him out as well. I have another idea but that can wait for a while," Laura told him. "Can I still be Sonny and Jason's friend?" Lucky asked. "As long as you are careful and promise me not to put your life at risk," Laura said not liking the idea but she knew she couldn't prevent it if he put his mind to it. "I won't and I understand why you did it. Why is Aunt Bobbie so mad?" Lucky asked her. "Bobbie thinks that Steven killed your father. He didn't but that is what she thinks," Laura told him. "Oh, I guess she is having trouble understand this as well," Lucky said sadly. "We all are, baby. It is just going to take time for the pain to heal," Laura said and she reached over his side and gave his hand a gentle squeeze. Lucky smiled at her and they were silent for the rest of the way home. Laura was thinking about the things she still needed to do before Saturday and Lucky was thinking about trying to get the events of the past out of his mind for at least ten minutes.
