Chapter 19

At home, Laura went into the kitchen to start supper and Lucky sat on the couch looking at the TV but not really watching it. He didn't even hear Nikolas or Steven come in. "Hey, you," Nikolas said as he tapped his brother on the shoulder.

Lucky jumped a little and looked up at Nikolas and Steven trying to hid his reaction but he failed. He had this frighten look on his face. "Easy, Lucky. We aren't hurt you," Steven said knowing full well what the boy had been thinking about.

"I know. You just startled me," Lucky said trying to smile but he failed.

"Were you thinking about her?" Steven asked as he sat down in the chair and Nikolas took the seat beside his brother.

"Yeah, I can't get Helena out of my mind. I guess I never will," Lucky said sadly.

"You will but it takes time. It isn't easy at least not this soon," Steven told him.

"You ever think about her and you?" Lucky asked him.

"I haven't in a long time but now that you lived threw it. I have been remembering things," Steven admitted. Nikolas sat and listens but kept quiet. He knew that Lucky needed to open up and that his father was the best person to get him to do it. It was just hard to hear them talking about a subject that neither one of them should have ever had to deal with and his hate for Helena grew at every moment.

"So, you did for get it about it?" Lucky asked.

"Not forgot about but I got over it. Lucky, you did nothing wrong. She is the monster and the one that was quality. Not you," Steven told him and he wished the boy would start believing it.

"I know it here," Lucky said pointing to his head, "but not here." And then he pointed down to his heart. "I hated being helpless and I hated her being in charge of me." Lucky said and tears started to fall down his cheeks. Nikolas grabbed him and held him and Steven moved from the chair to his other side.

"I know how you feel. She ran my life for so long that it took a long time to reclaim it back. I don't know if I ever had until now. You see, Lucky, I thought that I could make the Cassadine mean something and that would prove to her that I'm not worthless and I was better Stavros. I was fooling myself because she could have never cared and neither would Mikkos. I was nothing to them and that is the way things were for me. You are different because you knew yourself worth and no matter what she tried to do. She had to drug to gain control that was a false control. I gave her the power over me but you never did," Steven told him.
Lucky thought about this for a long time and he slowly started to realize Steven was right. He still felt lost and out control but things was starting to come clear for him. "I think I understand what you are trying to tell me. I guess, it takes someone else show the way."

"Yes, Alexis helped me and I'm helping you. I want you to know that any time you need to talk. Call me and I'll listen," Steven said.

"I will and thanks," Lucky said. Steven was just getting up and going into the kitchen when Lucky called out to him. "Steven?"

"Yes," Steven asked.

"I wanted to tell you that I'm glad you are going to our partner in the club. I don't think we could do this alone right now and you have helped more you will ever know," Lucky told him and this time he had a true smile on his face. It was still clouded pain but it wasn't as noticeable at the moment. Steven nodded his head at the teen and then headed into the kitchen to talk to Laura.

Laura was trying to look busy but Steven knew she had been listening through the door. "He will be ok," he said as he helped her pull the plates down for dinner.

"I know and thank you. I think you have helped Lucky more then anyone could," Laura said with a grateful smile on her face.

"I haven't done anything major. I just listen to him and added my opinion in the right place," Steven said.

"No, you do more then that. You showed Lucky that he wasn't alone. Lucky needs a friend that knows what he went through and I'm glad that person," Laura told Steven and then went to the stove to finish her dinner.

After dinner, Leslie took Lu out for a walk and left the others home to talk about the arrangements of setting up the new partnership. She had tried to talk Laura out of it but she refused to listen. So, Leslie relented. She did tell her daughter to be careful and hoped for Laura's sake that Stefan wasn't playing games with her.

Everyone was sitting at the table in the kitchen and Laura was acting very mysterious. She looked at Lucky, who got up and closed all the blinds over the windows before she even uttered a sound. "What is going on?" Steven asked Laura as the confused look grew.

"Sorry for the games but what I'm about to show is not to leave this room. If you turn me down, I am hopping that you will never tell anyone about this," Laura said and she looked at Steven with a very serious look on her face. Both Steven and Nikolas were silent as Lucky reached in a bowl of fruit on the table and pulled out the Ice Princess Diamond.
Steven picked up the uncut diamond and rolled it slowly in his hands.

"You had it?" he said in shock and dismay.

"Yes, we had it," Laura told him.

"And I thought mother had it. I should have known Luke would have been the one with the guts to swipe this from the family vault," Steven said, he was still not believing that he was really see the diamond after all this time.

"That's stealing?" Nikolas said shocked how calm Lucky and Laura were about this.

"Hey, how do you think we lived for the past ten years. Running from place to place and leaving things behind isn't cheep," Lucky said his tone of voice was full of sarcasm.

"You knew about this?" Nikolas asked in shock.

"I even learned how to take chunks out of it," Lucky said and he looked very pleased with this knowledge.

"That's enough," Steven said to the boys. "Laura, why are giving me this?"

"Luke told me that the Cassadine took a lot for the Spencers and this was his way of taking something back. I don't need any money. Lucky has enough to go to collage and is very set in life and so is Lu. You have more needs right now then we do. I am giving this diamond to start a new life for you and Nikolas. It is my way of welcoming you into the family," Laura said with a calm look on her face.

Steven thought about this for a long time. His first reaction was to give it back but he knew Laura would never give it back to the Cassadines and she would just hold it away until it was needed. Then he thought about how much the diamond was worth and what he could do with it. It could give them a start in life and it wasn't exactly taking for the Cassadines, because it hasn't been in the family's position for over ten years. "Ok," he said finally. "I'll take it but if you ever need anything. Don't be afraid to ask," Steven told her.

"I will not need anything. Luke had a very good life insurance. It was the one thing he prepared for and he has made sure that me and children are looked after," Laura assured him.

"I know a good pawn," Lucky told Steven.

"I will not need a pawn. I have something that your father never had and that is the papers on this diamond," Steven said holding up the ice princess for a few moments and then placed it in his inside pocket until he could get it to a safe place.

"Well, I hope this brings you luck and a good start in life," Laura said.

"It will and I know I can at least triple its value in less then a week," Steven told her as he got up to leave. Laura understood his reason's for wanting to leave. So, she said good bye to her guest and the little party broke up.
