Chapter 15

Lucky sat up with a start. He was covered is sweat and he was shaking all over. The dream was fading fast but the fear that came with it was still gripping his heart. He sat in his dark hospital room trying to slow his breathing down and to regain some control over his fear. "What am I afraid of?" Lucky asked himself. "What did Helena do to me?" His mother had said that she hadn't gotten far but what if that was a lie and Helena really did have had sex with him? The idea of having sex with Helena turned Lucky stomach and he rushed off suddenly to the bathroom. A nurse came in not long after that and found him still very nauseous. She went to get a doctor and together they finally got Lucky's stomach to settle down and got him back to sleep. Lucky's last conscious thoughts were about the days back in Greece and what he really didn't remember.

Lucky didn't dream the rest of the night, but he didn't get much sleep either. He was just too afraid to go back into the deep sleep where he knew that the nightmare was waiting for him. Laura arrived early that morning and learned of her son's problems that night. She walked into his room and found Lucky sitting up in bed with his arms wrapped tightly around his legs. She saw the lost, hurt look on his face and knew that he was trying to figure out the dream. "Hi, I heard you bad night. You want to talk about it?" Laura asked as she sat down in the chair beside his bed.

"No," Lucky said not moving from his position or even looking in her direction. Lucky was going over everything that had happened in Greece and so far it stopped at the same place. Helena had just pulled him down on the bed and the rest was blank to him. Things started up again slowly after Luke stormed into the room. He remembered Luke's anger and threats towards Helena and then seeing his father being shoved over the railing by Ari, but the blackness came again just seconds after Luke vanished. He didn't remember anything else until he woke up in the hospital.

"Baby, Please. Talk to me. I want to help you but you have to let me," Laura begged. She wanted to so badly to make these events go away and have the son back that she remembered.

"He's dead isn't he?" Lucky asked not really hearing his mother's words or even realizing that he'd said it. He was mainly thinking out loud but the question shook Laura badly.

She sat there looking at him and debated what to say. If she lied to him and said that Luke was hurt but going to be all right, would he forgive her when the truth finally come out? Laura suddenly came to a decision and hoped that it was the right one. "Lucky, I want you to look at me," Laura commanded and she waited until Lucky moved his head. His head was titled sideways and his check was resting on his knee. Lucky looked younger then his fifteen years and Laura had to steel herself for what she was about to do. "I know that I told you that your father is fine but he isn't. In fact, Luke isn't even here. I'm sorry baby but your father didn't make it.

Laura watched as the news of his father's death hit Lucky's heart. Tears filled his eyes and they slowly came purring out. Lucky had a feeling that he was lied to because of how far up that window was but he had hopped that his father had one more life left in him. Lucky felt the loss and the pain over well him and he barred his head in his legs and cried. Laura got from her chair and sat down bed and held son. They cried together and mourned Luke together. Neither of them said a word but it helped having other one there. Just being held by someone that loved Luke the just as deeply made the painless just a little bit.

After a time, the tears dried up and Lucky finally spoke. "Why didn't you tell me when I first woke up?" Lucky asked her his voice low and it was clear that he was hurting deep inside still.

"I was afraid of your reaction and I wanted to make sure that you would be all right first. I already lost Luke and I can't think about loosing you. I don't think I could face live if that happened," Laura told him as she pulled her son closer in the hope that he would understand it.

Lucky thought this and realized that he would have done the same thing. Laura lied to protect him and he couldn't hate her for it. He knew that he needed her as well because with Luke gone. She was the only parent he had left and he wasn't ready to face life alone. "I understand but I need to know something. Where is he?" Lucky asked, he remembered vaguely hearing Nikolas and Stefan talk about Luke but the words were not that clear to him but something wasn't right. He just didn't know what it was.
Laura took a few deep breaths and then said, "We didn't find his body. The tide was going out and Luke must have landed in an out going current. We don't have a body to bury."

Lucky shook his head and fought the tears again. "You mean, he was never found and we are never going to get a chance to say good bye?" Lucky asked his heart felt like someone was pounding on it and trying to stomp it out.

Laura looked at Lucky and said, "No, we can say good bye. We don't need a body to do that and I think Luke would think this is fitting. He died fighting for you and the Cassadines and that is how wanted it. He told once that he would rather die fighting then in bed at home. He lived his life on the edge and he died that way and no matter what he thought about it. I know he is looking over us now and waiting for us to be together again," Laura told him.

Lucky smiled at this through his tears and said, "You know all my life dad was unstoppable and I never once thought of him loosing to anyone. I guess a little kid needs to think that their parents are superhuman. I needed more then anyone because of Frank. It took the fear away but now that dad is gone. I know that he was human and that he only did all of this out of love for us. I just wish that I could see him once more and tell him how I really feel," Lucky said as he wiped the tears away.
"You don't need to see him to tell him. I'll leave you alone for a while to think about Luke and how you feel. I promise Lucky, Luke will hear you," Laura said kissing her son on the forehead and getting up and walking out. Lucky watched her leave and hoped she was right. He sat his back against the wall and thought of Luke. He remembered everything they did together and the life they lead up that point. He did feel lucky to have a father that never once tried to control his life but to guide him to path that fit him. Luke never told him to be in at special time or yelled out control when was late. He listens to his problems and yes there protect him when he got over his head. Lucky knew that he would never forget his father and the best thing he could do for Luke was to make a life for himself and hopefully be half a father any child he had as his father was to him

Laura stood outside Lucky's door crying when Stefan walked up and with a look of worry on his face asked, "Is Lucky ok?"

"Yes," Laura said as she wiped the tears away. "I just told him about Luke and he took it hard but what you expect. He just his father."

"I'm sorry Laura. I knew it was hard but I think it is for the best. Lucky is better off know now then later," Stefan told her and he debated if he should reach out and hug her or not.

"I know. I just wish that I would never had to tell him. I want Luke to walk in and tell me that Ari was screw up and that no one could ever best him. I know you never liked Luke and I can't blame you. I just wish you had known the man that Lucky and me saw everyday of our lives together. Luke had so many different sides to him and you only saw that one side. He was more then what you think," Laura said and the two of them walked to a bench just outside Lucky's room and sat down.
"I saw part of that person when we were going after the boys. You know, I felt bad that Luke died and not because he was my biological father but because of what he did for me," Stefan said as he sat beside Laura with his hands gripping his knees.

"What do you mean?" Laura asked noticing the tension in Stefan but she held back as well because she didn't want him to take her comfort wrong. She knew that Stefan once loved her but now that the truth was out. She was very sure that she could never go back to the way it was on the island.

"Helena had set us on a wild goose chase after the boys and Luke figured out that it was trap and he saved both of us. We were caring the bomb on us. It was someone how in the handcuffs and Luke picked the lock and freed both of us. He could have saved himself but he didn't and I'm grateful. I was trying to repay him but that never happened," Stefan said and he looked away from Laura as the memory of how Luke died flashed in his head.

Laura nodded her head sadly at this and said, "Well, like I said. You don't know the Luke, me and Lucky knew."

"No, I didn't and that can't be changed. I just have to live with how things are now." Stefan said starting to feel very uncomfortable about where this conversation was heading.

"Speaking of living live as they are now. How are you doing with your new life?" Laura asked smiling at the fact that Stefan was really going to change his name to Steven Spencer.

"As good as it can be expected. Nikolas and I have moved into the Port Charles Hotel and I'm helping Alexis divide things up among the Cassadines," Stefan told her.

"I know this is hard for you and I want to say that it takes a lot of guts do change your name after all this time. Specially to a name that you despised for most of your adult life," Laura told him.

"I don't hate Spencer as much as I hate Mikkos and Helena at this moment. They finally told me exactly how the felt for me in that files Alexis found. I was nothing but a tool to get to the other one. So, If I rub it in and spread their money around to people that they hated. I can get some stratification from it. If you would want to know, I changed my name for my son. He needs a past and likes it or not. Luke is part of that past and besides. I carried a name that only stood for power and corruption. Why not carry one that stood for destroy all of that." Stefan said and for the first time sense he sat down beside Laura. He had a real smile on his face.

Laura smiled as well and then an idea hit her. "Stefan, would you do me a favor?" Laura asked.

"Anything," Stefan said.

"Would you go in and talk to Lucky? I know from our talk on the island that you and him have a lot in common and I think it might help him and in turn help you," Laura asked of him.

"How would it help me?" Stefan asked.

"I can tell about Luke or the I knew but it would different then how Lucky saw him. You would learn about the father in Luke and maybe that will help you adjust to your new life and if not. I hope that it will help my son. He is alone and confused and he just lost his best friend. You might be able to help him get past it," Laura said.
"I'll try but I'm promising anything," Stefan said and he got up and walked into Lucky's room.
