Chapter Eight

Events before and during the Nurses Ball

A week before the Nurses Ball, Nikolas and Lucky took the girls out on a date.
The group went to dinner and to a movie. The only problem anyone had was who was
paying for things. They finally decide to split the difference. Nikolas paid for
the meal and Lucky the movie. Robin came up with the idea after they argued
about it for ten minutes and headed for the movie. Ten Oclock that night
Nikolas dropped Lucky and Liz of at her house. You sure you dont want a ride
home? Nikolas asked him.

Yes, I want to stick around for awhile and then Ill head home. Dont worry
about it have fun. Lucky said closing the door and walked up the walk with Liz.

Lizzie and Lucky sat in the back yard on the swing talking and looking at the
stars. I dont believe you and Nikolas spent the whole night together and
didnt kill each other. Lizzie said.

I know. At first, I was doing this for mom and now I dont know. Nikolas isnt
that bad if I forget his last name. Dad is getting better, too. He still doesnt
trust the Cassadines but at least he doesnt glare at Nikolas when he comes
around, Lucky said.

Lucky, Im proud of you. You dont know it but I think your mother would really
be proud of you, too, Lizzie told him.

I hope she would. I still miss her Liz and I all ways will but the pain down to
a dull roar and now I can think of the good times with out all the pain. I loved
both of them and would love to have them back but I realize I cant have it,
Lucky told her.

I know and people morn in their own way. You and your father had to hit bottom
to begin again. Lizzie said. Lucky leaned over to kiss her. They were kissing
for a while when the back porch light went on. I think Grams telling us
something.

I think so to. Its late, anyway. Ill see you tomorrow after summer school.
Lucky said.

Hows it going? she asked.

I have a few more weeks then Im done. I have all As. See, Im not dumb.
Lucky said with a smile.

I never said you were. Mr. Hayes said it once but he regrets it. He didnt know
Luke was standing around the corner at the time. Lizzie said with a laugh.

I know Dad was looking for a fight that day and Mr. Hayes almost had it. I
never saw anyone back down that fast. Lucky said as he got up. They kissed good
night and Lucky headed to the penthouse.

Lucky was about a few blocks for the house when Taggert suddenly appeared in
front of him. Where are you going? Taggert demanded.

Home. Where else at eleven thirty at night? Lucky said sarcastically.

I had a complaint some kid was trying to break in shops around here. You fit
the description. I think Ill have to take you down town for questioning.
Taggert grabbed Lucky and started to cuff him.

Your out of your mind, Taggert. I wasnt around here all night. I was on a date
with my girlfriend and some friends. Lucky said trying to get free but his
hands were now behind him locked in handcuffs. Taggert had placed them on him
too tight and his wrist were hurting all ready.

Whats their names? Taggert asked.

Lizzie Webber, Robin Scorpio, and Nikolas Cassadine. Lucky said.

You must think Im stupid. You and Cassadine going out on a date with some
girls together. Come on, kid. You can think of something better then that. I
thought Luke taught you better then this. Taggert said with a sneer and shoved
him to the car.

Lucky couldnt believe this was happening but then realized why? Taggert knew
they moved just across from Sonny. The Spencers were now on Taggerts list of
people to harass.

Mac was going home late for station and walked into the booking room one more
time. Taggert was bringing Lucky in right then. Mac looked at the detective and
asked, Taggert, What in hell are you doing now? Why are you bring Lucky Spencer
in?

I had a call some kid was trying to break into some business downtown. He was
in the area and fits the description of the suspect. Taggert said and not so
gently shoved Lucky into a chair.

Taggert, go easy. Mac said steadying Lucky and looking at his hands behind
him. Get these things off of him now. He isnt going anywhere. You better watch
your self on this one. You even cross the line a hair and Ill have your badge.
Mac said and picked up the phone.

Who you calling Commissioner? If you dont mind me asking, Taggert inquired.

Luke Spencer is father. I dont want that man mad for no reason. Mac said and
made the call.

Taggert was going to walk away but Mac pointed to Lucky. Taggert didnt remove
the cuffs until he was reminded a few times more. Lucky was rubbing his wrist
when Luke and Sonny arrived at the station. Luke was angry and Mac was hoping he
was going to be in a better mood. Bubba, What is going on here? Luke demanded
glaring at Taggert.

Mac told him and said, I didnt want Taggert to question him without you
present.

Lucky spoke up for the first time. I wasnt anywhere in the area all night
until I was walking home. I told Taggert that a while ago. I was on a date with
my girl friend and we doubled with another couple your niece and Nikolas
Cassadine, Lucky said.

Mac looked at Luke then Lucky. He was telling the truth. A Spencer and a
Cassadine? Mac picked up the phone a called Robin. She soon arrived with
Nikolas. Luke was yelling at Taggert and Sonny was trying to get him to back
down. Sonny glared at Taggert but kept his mouth shut. He knew Taggert wanted
them to push it to place them in jail not Lucky.

Robin looked at her uncle and asked, What is going on?

Robin was Lucky with you and Nikolas all night around nine tonight? Mac asked
her.

Yes. We were at the movie and it didnt let out until ten. We dropped Lizzie
and Lucky off at her house a little after that. Why? she asked.

We got a call and someone was trying to break into some shops downtown. Lucky
fits the description and we were just checking on it thats all. Mac said.

I dont believe it. Lucky would never do anything like that and you know it.
Who arrested him? Robin asked and looked at Taggert. You did. I can tell you
one thing Detective if my father or mother were alive and were in charge you
would be out of a job. You are no cop. You use your power to get to people you
hate and help the ones you like. You cross the line way too often and one day
youre going to nail someone right and no one is going to believe it. Robin
said to him. Ill sign a statement if you want.

No. I think we waited enough of time on this matter. Lucky, youre free to go.
Mac said to him.

Taggert. Luke said before walking out. You even think about doing this again
and Ill have your badge. You understand me. He didn't stick around for the
reply and they headed home. In the limo heading to the club Luke turned to
Lucky, I think its time to get you some kind of transportation. Taggert will
bring you in more often if we dont.

I know why he did it. He just hates Sonny and anyone around him. Lucky said.

Your right kid and Im sorry. Taggert tries this again and Ill have Valentine
go after him with all I have and that is a promise, Sonny said.
