Chapter Five

Lucky still could not believe how big the house was and all the stuff that was
in it. Every time, he tried to pick something up, someone would come along and
slap his hands. He was getting tired of the word NO but he still held hope
that his parents were coming for him soon. He was even counting the days to his
birthday. Nikolas was working on his homework when Lucky entered the den. He saw
that Nikolas had a large black mark on his face. Lucky walked up to his brother
and asked. Who hurt you?

Dad, I messed up on some of my papers. He wants them redone. I cant play right
now, Lucas. Im sorry. Nikolas said going back to work.

His father was a monster. Lucky couldnt wait to tell his father about the bad
man. He knew that Luke would do something about him. Stavros treated Lucky like
dirt but he also treated his own son as bad.

Helena walked in right then to check on the boys. She walked over to Nikolas and
saw his face. Your father, right. she said coldly.

Yes, grandmother. He didnt like the way my schoolwork was going. He got mad
and hit me. Nikolas told her.

We will see about this. Let me see your work. I will decide if it needs to be
redone. Helena told him holding out her hands.

She looked over the papers and got even madder. The work was fine for a boy
Nikolas age and he didnt need to be hit for the mistakes. She might have
stood by and watched when Stavros and Stefan was growing up, but Nikolas was
different. She even carried a little about Lucas but it was hard to love a child
whos father killed your husband. she thought going out to find Stavros.

Helena turned and said. Nikolas go play with Lucas. Your work was just fine as
it is. If your father sees you before I get to him. Tell him I say to find me at
once and I approved of your getting up. Helena said.

Nikolas got up and guided his brother down the hall. They went into the playroom
to get a ball and mitts. He was going to teach Lucky to throw the ball. They
were about to walk outside when Stavros stopped them. Where do you think youre
going? he asked walking toward them.

Outside. Grandmother said my work was all right and she would like to talk to
you. Nikolas said.

Your grandmother isnt in charge. I am. Stavros said grabbing his son by the
arm. He was about to hit him when Helena stopped him.

Stavros! Get off him and get over here. she ordered.

Stavros dropped his sons arm and started toward his mother. Helena nodded to
the boys and they ran outside to get away from the adults. Helena stood looking
at her son in complete discuss. You are a fool. You have no idea on how to get
anything in life. All you had to do is show a little love and Nikolas wouldnt
run from you and maybe you could get Lucas as well, but you dont. You dont
even see what is wrong with you attitude. Stavros, I will stand by and watch you
mess up with Lucas but Nikolas is a different story. I dont want to see or hear
about any more him getting hurt. I will know and I will remind you on who is in
charge around here. You are the Cassadine in appearance only. Remember that, I
left Luke alive for a reason. He could replace you any day. It would only take a
word from me. So, behave yourself and leave your son be. Stavros said.

He isnt my son. You know that and I do. We know who is father is and that is
the reason you dont want me to hurt him. You loved Stefan even then but because
of the brothers you couldnt show it. I know you mother. You always stopped them
from beating him but not me. I wasnt Steven and that is the problem and always
will be. He said walking way from his mother.

Helena looked after him in revolution. He was right and she knew it, but it
wasnt any of them she really loved and maybe someday the one she dose would
forgive her, but most probably not. She has to keep up the act because of the
others are always watching. Helena went out to check on how the boys were doing.
