| Chapter Four Lucky slowly stopped asking for his parents. He learned early on that Stavros was to be avoided at all costs. He did have three friends and Stefan was thinking of a way to cheer the boy up. He knew Luckys birthday was about a week away. Stefan convinced his mother that allowing Luke and Laura the opportunity to write their son would only help the Cassadines cause. She agreed and Stefan flew to the other compound to talk to them. He had some pictures of Lucky and a page from his coloring book with him. He hoped this would be enough to help ease Lashas pain. Stefan walked up to the glass door and keyed in a code. Laura was in the kitchen and Luke had just walked out of the bedroom. He was about to jump Stefan when a guard pointed a gun in Lauras direction. He will shoot and then Lucas will join her. Stefan said. You have some nerve, Cassadine, coming this close to me, Luke said to him. I can leave and then you will never get these, Stefan said, holding up the pictures of Lucky and headed toward the door. Stefan, please. Let me see him. Laura begged. Luke looked at his wife and relented. He slowly sat in the chair beside the bedroom and placed his hands on his lap. I wont even move. Let her see them. Luke said in defeat. Laura went up to Stefan and gathered the pictures. She walked over to Luke and slowly they looked at Lucky for the first time in months. Stefan watched with pain burning in his heart. He realized then that Luke wasnt his enemy but the others were. He just didnt have the guts to do anything about it, yet. He's gotten big, Laura said. Yes, and he is reading and learning to write. He is even learning to ride horses. You can see from one of the pictures, he loves his pony, Stefan said sitting down in the chair across from Luke. What have you told him about us? Luke asked. He thinks you left him with us to keep him safe and will return when he is older. He used to ask about you everyday but stopped. He does still think about you, though Stefan replied. You make it look like we dumped him on you Luke said, with pure hate in his voice. It wasnt my idea, but the others'. I would love to tell him the truth but all it would do is hurt him even more. His birthday is in couple days. You can write him and as long as you dont tell him where you are, you can say anything you want. Just remember, he is one confused little boy, Stefan said. Laura took the pad he held out to her and gave it to Luke. Luke smiled at the color page of a cowboy on a horse. He wrote his son this. Cowboy, I know you miss us and we miss you a lot, but things arent working the way I had thought. So, you might have to be with the Cassadines a while longer. This doesnt mean we dont love you, but it has to be this way. I asked the Cassadines to send me and you mother pictures of you. I noticed from them you are learning to ride a horse, just like a real live cowboy. You be good and we will see you soon. I hope. Maybe when we get there you can show me your horse and we will go riding. Until then dont forget I will always love you and so does your mother. Thinking of you always. Luke and Laura Youre loving parents Laura ran into the bedroom, crying. She could not stand to look at Stefan any longer, knowing that he saw her son more then they did. Stefan took the letter and read it. He will enjoy this and I promise to look after him for you. He is happy most of the time and he will slowly start to accept all of this, he said. No, he wont, your dreaming, Cassadine. The longer you keep him away from us, the more damage you will do to him. Lucky will learn to hate in time and he will turn on you. I know because he is my son and there is nothing you can do about that. Luke said, getting up to join his wife. Chapter 5 Return to Cassadine Revenge |
